Former St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer wants the federal government to make opening day of the baseball season a national holiday.
The Hall of Fame shortstop is leading a campaign to collect 100,000 signatures within 30 days under the We the People petitioning program, which would trigger a review by the Obama administration. The effort is being backed by Anheuser-Busch InBev's Budweiser brand.
"Coming from St. Louis, of course being such a baseball town, it's sort of an unofficial holiday, Opening Day, so they thought it would be a good idea for Mr. Smith to just take a trip to Washington," Smith said Tuesday during a telephone interview for ESPN.

Hmmm, we dont know about this one.....to make Opening day a holiday? Thats a bit much.....so if they do that,, will people get the opportunity to get free tickets to a game? What will people do who arent fans?  And what will they call it, Opening Day Day? LOL

FOOD BITEZ

This Sunday the Academy Awards will be aired which present awards in the film industry, Motion Picture Arts Association. And the food that is associated with watching films, is....popcorn.

Popcorn, also known as popping corn, is a type of corn (maizeZea mays var. everta) that expands from the kernel and puffs up when heated. Popcorn is able to pop because, like amaranth grainsorghumquinoa, and millet, its kernels have a hard moisture-sealed hull and a dense starchyinterior. Pressure builds inside the kernel, and a small explosion (or "pop") is the end result. Some strains of corn are now cultivated specifically as popping corns.
There are various techniques for popping corn. Along with prepackaged popcorn, which is generally intended to be prepared in a microwave oven, there are small home appliances for popping corn. These methods require the use of minimally processed popping corn.
A larger-scale, commercial popcorn machine was invented by Charles Cretors in the late 19th century.
Unpopped popcorn is considered nonperishable and will last indefinitely if stored in ideal conditions.
Depending on how it is prepared and cooked, some consider popcorn to be a health food, while others caution against it for a variety of reasons. Popcorn can also have non-food applications, ranging from holiday decorations to packaging materials.
Popcorn was first cultivated thousands of years ago by the people living in what is now Peru. It is one of the oldest forms of corn; evidence of popcorn from 3600 B.C. was found in New Mexico, while even older evidence was found in Peru. It is estimated that these remnants date from as early as 4700 B.C. Purple popcorn was found in the early 1900s.[1][2

Why did the states of Kansas and Arizona pass laws banning homosexuals to public accommodations?  Why is Ludacris claiming broke regarding his break baby? And why is he trying to get custody of the baby if thats the case?   Why is the TV show "Single Ladies" still on air? (NOTE:VH1 has reportedly cancelled it  this week) And why are some politicians get sticky fingers using campaign funds for their own personal use?

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

The First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week to discuss the fourth year of Let’s Move! and to encourage young people to sign up for the Affordable Care Act — but the sit-down chat isn’t what has people buzzing. Much like she’s done in past appearances with Fallon, Mrs. Obama also appeared in a viral-ready skit.

In yet another holdover from Late Night, Fallon brought back Ew!, his Saturday Night Live-esque teen girl talk show, where he and another guest (this time, Will Ferrell) pretend to be 13-year-olds and discuss matters of great importance to teens: Harry Styles, kissing posters of Harry Styles, etc.
The First Lady was a great sport in the silly sketch, and managed to give great face to the cameras, plug healthy snacks (Kale chips!), and, of course, even participated in a requisite dance party.

FOOD BITEZ

The First Lady Michelle Obama made news this week when she appeared in a sketch with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight show promoting her healthy lifestyle initiative,.In the segment, she suggested instead of potato chips to try kale chips.

So what is kale?

Kale or borecole (Brassica oleracea Acephala Group) is a vegetable with green or purple leaves, in which the central leaves do not form a head. It is considered to be closer to wild cabbage than most domesticated forms.
The species Brassica oleracea contains a wide variety of vegetables, including broccolicauliflowercollard greens, and brussels sprouts. The cultivar group Acephala also includes spring greens and collard greens, which are extremely similar genetically. Pieris rapae is one of the most well known pests of the plant.
The name borecole most likely originates from the Dutch boerenkool (farmer's cabbage), whereas kale bears semblance to the Danish kål and to the German Kohl (a general term for various kinds of cabbage) and Scottish Gaelic càl. Some varieties can reach a height of six or seven feet; others are compact and symmetrical and of good quality for eating. Many, however, are coarse, possess an undesirable coloring, and are unappealing and indigestible. Most kale are either annuals or biennials, and are raised from seeds, which, in size, form, and color, resemble those of the cabbage. In Congo and in East Africa (Tanzania and Kenya), the plant is referred to by the generic name of sukuma wiki, which literally translates as "stretch the week "; the term also includes collard greens.
Until the end of the Middle Ages, kale was one of the most common green vegetables in all of Europe. Curly leafed varieties of cabbage already existed along with flat leafed varieties in Greece in the fourth century BC.[citation needed] These forms, which were referred to by the Romans as Sabellian kale, are considered to be the ancestors of modern kales. Today one may differentiate between varieties according to the low, intermediate, or high length of the stem, with varying leaf types. The leaf colours range from light green through green, dark green and violet-green to violet-brown. Russian kale was introduced into Canada (and then into the U.S.) by Russian traders in the 19th century.
During World War II, the cultivation of kale in the U.K. was encouraged by the Dig for Victory campaign. The vegetable was easy to grow and provided important nutrients to supplement those missing from a normal diet because of rationing.[1]
Kai-lan, a separate cultivar of Brassica oleracea much used in Chinese cuisine, is somewhat similar to kale in appearance and is occasionally called "kale" in English.

This week we feature former STLian and current ATlian fashion designer Joni Marie Ross who is wearing a black V-neck wrap around dress with shiny black leggings and black boots....and check out that bag...we are sure its branded.....we also like the wrap do with one curl to the side (and we see she has slimmed KUDOS).
