Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

The First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week to discuss the fourth year of Let’s Move!
and to encourage young people to sign up for the Affordable Care Act — but the sit-down chat isn’t what has people buzzing. Much
like she’s done in past appearances with Fallon, Mrs. Obama also appeared in a
viral-ready skit.
In
yet another holdover from Late Night, Fallon brought back Ew!, his Saturday Night Live-esque teen girl talk show, where he and
another guest (this time, Will Ferrell) pretend to be 13-year-olds and discuss
matters of great importance to teens: Harry Styles, kissing posters of Harry
Styles, etc.
The
First Lady was a great sport in the silly sketch, and managed to give great
face to the cameras, plug healthy snacks (Kale chips!), and, of course, even
participated in a requisite dance party.
And did yawl check out that black jumpsuit she wore----she gave us LIFE indeed!
St. Louis Blues hockey player TJ OShie is the IT MAN of the
Winter Olympics after his goal winning score last Saturday against Russia . Prior to
the final goal, Oshie scored four times in the shootout and put the
winner in the eighth round, leading the United States past Russia in the
thrilling revival of a classic Olympic hockey rivalry.
"I was just thinking of
something else I could do, trying to
keep him guessing," said Oshie, the
St. Louis Blues forward.
"Had to go back to the same move a couple times,
but I
was glad it ended when it did. I was running out of moves
there."
Since then, Oshie, has seen his popularity
surge, gaining 140,000 Twitter followers since the start of the Games and the
nickname "T.J. Sochi" after bringing home the win over host Russia on Saturday
at the Bolshoy Ice Dome in Sochi . He even received a congratulatory tweet from the president. The crowd was chanting his name, and his phone
was bombarded with texts and congratulatory calls afterward.
People are also saying the game was similar to "Miracle on
Ice" in 1980 when the Americans shocked the then Soviet Union .
The eight-round shootout ended in a 3-2 victory for Team USA
and sent it to the quarter finals, where it defeated the Czech Republic before
it will face Team Canada on Friday in the semi finals in hopes of advancing to
the gold medal game that will take place Sunday.
UPDATE: TEAM USA Lost to Canada

The First Lady Michelle Obama made news this week when she appeared in a sketch with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight show promoting her healthy lifestyle initiative,.In the segment, she suggested instead of potato chips to try kale chips.
So what is kale?
Kale or borecole (Brassica oleracea Acephala Group) is a vegetable with green or purple leaves, in which the central leaves do not form a head. It is considered to be closer to wild cabbage than most domesticated forms.
So what is kale?
Kale or borecole (Brassica oleracea Acephala Group) is a vegetable with green or purple leaves, in which the central leaves do not form a head. It is considered to be closer to wild cabbage than most domesticated forms.
The species Brassica oleracea contains a wide variety of vegetables, including broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, and brussels sprouts. The cultivar group Acephala also includes spring greens and collard greens, which are extremely similar genetically. Pieris rapae is one of the most well known pests of the plant.
The name borecole most likely originates from the Dutch boerenkool (farmer's cabbage), whereas kale bears semblance to the Danish kål and to the German Kohl (a general term for various kinds of cabbage) and Scottish Gaelic càl. Some varieties can reach a height of six or seven feet; others are compact and symmetrical and of good quality for eating. Many, however, are coarse, possess an undesirable coloring, and are unappealing and indigestible. Most kale are either annuals or biennials, and are raised from seeds, which, in size, form, and color, resemble those of the cabbage. In Congo and in East Africa (Tanzania and Kenya), the plant is referred to by the generic name of sukuma wiki, which literally translates as "stretch the week "; the term also includes collard greens.
Until the end of the Middle Ages, kale was one of the most common green vegetables in all of Europe. Curly leafed varieties of cabbage already existed along with flat leafed varieties in Greece in the fourth century BC.[citation needed] These forms, which were referred to by the Romans as Sabellian kale, are considered to be the ancestors of modern kales. Today one may differentiate between varieties according to the low, intermediate, or high length of the stem, with varying leaf types. The leaf colours range from light green through green, dark green and violet-green to violet-brown. Russian kale was introduced into Canada (and then into the U.S.) by Russian traders in the 19th century.
During World War II, the cultivation of kale in the U.K. was encouraged by the Dig for Victory campaign. The vegetable was easy to grow and provided important nutrients to supplement those missing from a normal diet because of rationing.[1]
Kai-lan, a separate cultivar of Brassica oleracea much used in Chinese cuisine, is somewhat similar to kale in appearance and is occasionally called "kale" in English.
