OK, now to the BITZ...

The big talk over the past week of the backlash that The Academy Awards received when the nominations were announced and all of the nominees in the Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress were of Caucasian descent. (#OSCARSOWHITE) for a second year in a row. Well, you all Im sure have seen and heard about actress Jada Pinkett Smith's video she posted on social media about her frustration with the non color factor in the nominations and decided that people of color should stop supporting the award show that doesnt represent them. Well, the heat went on when actress Janet Hubert from "Fresh Prince of Belair" clapped back with her own video calling out Pinkett-Smith on that her complaint was mainly because her husband Will wasnt nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor, that there are more things to protest about than the Oscars, and that people of color shouldnt jeopardize their livelihood of boycotting the awards ....then went wayyy back to when she was on Fresh Prince and how she went to Will about the cast going to NBC to ask for a raise and told her that she's on her own in regards to getting her own deal.

Well, here is the thing, The Academy Awards have been exclusive since its inception 80 years ago. So what's changed? A few African Americans have won the award (Hattie McDaniel becoming the first in 1940) and their is an African American female who is the President of the Academy, but it is still ran by people of non-color.  There have been many arguments for why people of color should be included mainly because its to help generate money for the actors and actresses in their careers building their brand. Bottom line.

However, just like the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, there has to be more aggressive change by actually going to the Academy and demanding that things change or don;t go to see movies in theatres. Thats the only way that things will change. Not going to the ceremony may have people talking, but it wont affect real change unless you go to the executive's doors during meetings on green lighting movies interrupting them and demand for a change.  Does Jada have a point? Absolutely. Does Janet have a point? Yes she does. But from the outside looking in, it looks like two women of color bashing it out in front of the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Jada's husband, Will had to do some clearing the air regarding Jada's video saying that he wasnt aware that she was doing it and that he was out of the country when she had done it. But, he said he will support his wife and not attend the awards. Hmmm, this is really interesting. Could this have been more of a damage control thing so Will wouldnt get maligned in Hollywood? Possibly. But he had to do something.

Then, director Spike Lee who along with Jada wasnt attending the award show but said that he didnt say boycott the awards. Now, Spike, who have used his voice over the years about the injustices in Hollywood (even last year when he won an honorary Oscar called out execs in hi speech who dont greenlight movies involving black subject matter) is shying away from saying boycott? But isnt that what he's doing? He said that he was going to a Knicks game instead. Okay, Spike.

Some of Black Hollywood is even calling for the host of this year's Academy Awards, Chris Rock, to step down as host (more specifically Curtis 50 Cent Jackson and Tyrese Gibson) to protest the all-white BET Awards, in the words of Rock himself. Should he step down? Many are saying it would be up to him. We think he shouldnt. What he should do is address the elephant in the theater and do what he was hired to do.  We think the attention that this is getting, will be a ratings winner, mainly to see if he shows up or not. So, in the end, ABC, who will be airing the Oscars Feb 28.

Talk show host Steve Harvey had both Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines on his talk show recently on two different days to apologize to them about the now infamous goof that Harvey had done when he announced the wrong winner of the Miss Universe Pageant. He asked Miss Colombia if she was suing him and taking his house and she said that she wasnt. He then shared that he and his family received death threats for the mishap. WOW. Really? Its called a mistake.  We dont even think invaders of countries would have gotten that type of treatment. But when he started crying during his apology, although  a bit over dramatic, we can understand.

Have you all checked the remix and music video for Lalah Hathway's song, "Little Ghetto Boy?"  It is hella fire! Well, she has veteran rapper Snoop Dogg on the track and video and in the video she chauffeurs him in a car through the hoods of America  as well as others (producer of this years Oscars Reginald Hudlin, Noah's Arc Darryl Stephens ). Comedian Affton Crockett also makes a cameo in the video. To peep it go to

Is actress Megan Good the male version of Taye Diggs? She continues to land shows like airplanes. After one  cancels (crashes and burns) she manages to get another and fly again. Her Fox  series Minority Report  and her role in NBC's Mr Robinson were both cancelled recently and now she signed up in a recurring role on CBS' show Coded.

Well, the radio coup that  Tom Joyner Morning Show personality J Anthony Brown started last week on the show came to an end this Monday when he returned to the show. He made fun of the situation by saying, "I'm baaaaaaack." And then quipped about how people came up to him thinking he was off teh show. Then said, "Families fight, hey."  We figured Brown wouldnt be off for long and from what we hear Joyner had to open those deep pockets himself  to increase the deficit in Brown's contract.

We are still stanning on the trio group KING. Three black, natural hair young ladies who was discovered by Prince on YOUTUBE and opened for him in 2011. Well, they have announced their promo tour on their FB page. One coming Feb 11 in Evanston, Ill. at The Space. To see their tour schedule go to https://www.facebook.com/weareKING/?fref=ts.

Longtime St Louis restaurant Mike Shannon;s is closing its downtown St Louis location after 30 years in business, Its proprietor St Louis Cardinals sportscaster and veteran player's namesake announced this week of its closing and concentrating on its other restaurants in the St Louis Lambert Airport and Edwardsville, Ill. Speculation is he was closing it due to the heavy competition from Ballpark Village which is a few blocks away from the restaurant. Also, it was reported on the Martin Kilcoyne radio show that his employees didnt know the restaurant was closing until Shannon announced it this week. Wow talk about ringing the bell for service.

WORD TO THE WHYZ????

Why is Sarah Palin endorsing Donald Trump for President? And why did she blame Barack Obama for her son's PTSD based domestic violence charge? Why did it take so long for Flint, Michigan to deal with the tainted water? And why did they claim the water was safe to drink? Why are people surprised at what Stacy Dash says in the first place? And why are people suprised at who the Oscars choose as nominees? Why did Tichina Arnold's husband video tape his sexual conquests with other women?  Why is R Kelly acting like he didnt know who comedian Dave Chappelle was when asked about the latter's skit about him on his comedy show a few years ago? Why did Madonna have people waiting clos eto three hours to perform at a recent concert? And Why did someone dump some issues of the latest St Louis based Delux magazine in a dumpster?

EVENT NOTES: This was a very nice event for a great cause to raise money for April Simpson;s Foundation, April;'s Angels as well as a farewell party to her leaving St Louis after 12 years working as an anchor on Fox 2 News.  Although the crowd was a bit sparse, those who were there definitely had an affinity for Simpson indeed. Also in attendance was St Louis Post Dispatch music writer Kevin C Johnson, and Hazelwood School district administrator Jazell Dailey Thomas.
