ACT ONE (NOT SEEN)
Our protagonists, Juanita Tyson and Bert Goodluck are taking their final bows of their hit Broadway play, Ossie and Ruby, on December 2024, which has been on Broadway at The Gershwin Theatre in New York since September 27, 2024.
Juanita, who is a veteran movie actress, was a first time actress of theatre in this project. Thus, she has become the Toast of Broadway with her outstanding performance as legendary stage and TV actress Ruby Dee while her husband, Bert, who is a veteran stage actor, played Ossie Davis, Ruby's husband. Bert pertained double duty as actor and one of the producers of the play along with Wall Street stock broker and theatre producer Paulie Gardner. Bert bought the rights to the veteran acting couple's joint autobiography, In This Life Together (2000) and worked with Gardner on the first run of the stage play.
Tension between The Goodlucks came about when Juanita receives rave reviews for the play in such publications such as Variety and Playbill. She also created a huge buzz with critics regarding her possibilities of receiving a Thespy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play. Meanwhile, Bert, who is a five-time Thespy Award nominee, for the first time in his theatre career, had to play second fiddle to his wife.
Backstage, heated arguments ensued between Juanita and Bert before and after the shows mainly about how he felt she tried to upstage him each show to the point where their publicist, Lynne Goodluck, Juanita's niece, had to be play mediator with them and calm the peace so no rumors of conflict or tension would leak to Page Six of the New York Post.
Act One ends in January 2025 and its Thespy Award Nominations Day. Juanita is a nervous wreck in her lavish Chelsea apartment in New York with Lynne. During this time, Juanita gets a call from her agent about a two multi-million dollar picture deal with her film company in Los Angeles-a first for her career, Lynne reports to her that the critics predict she may get one of five slots for Best Actress in a Play at the Thespy Awards, and Juanita makes the tough decision whether to turn down Bert's offer to tour with Ossie and Ruby or sign her picture deal contract.

Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee were a celebrated married couple of American actors, writers and activists. Ossie Davis (1917 - 2005) - Actor, director, writer, poet, playwright, and civil rights activist
- He wrote and starred in the play, "Purlie Victorious" in 1961, it played on Broadway
- Known for his roles in Dinosaur (2000), Dr. Dolittle, Roots: The Next Generation, and Spike Lee films
- Also voiced Anansi the Spider on Sesame Street
- Actress, screenwriter, and playwright
- Won Grammy and Emmy Awards
- Nominated for an Academy Award
- Starred in Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever No. 2, and American Gangster
- Also appeared on Sesame Street, The Guiding Light, and Peyton Place
- Met on the set of the 1946 Broadway play Jeb
- Had an open marriage for a time, but later changed their minds
- Had three children: Guy Davis, Nora Day, and Hasna Muhammad
- The couple wrote an autobiography together, With Ossie and Ruby
- Considered one of the most revered couples of American stage and screen.
