Emmy Award nominated talk show shost Jimmy Kimmel had St Louis native and Emmy Award nominee Jon Hamm,\ on the show this week and made him do a taste test comparison between an Imo’s pizza and a homemade one.

As expected, Hamm chose the St. Louis establishment’s product as being better.

Kimmel’s wife, who  is from St. Louis,  said he can’t stand some of the city’s claim-to-fame foods.

“I get a lot of abuse from people in St. Louis whenever I make fun of their terrible, terrible pizza place,” he said on the show .
Kimmel also said he thought toasted ravioli was "disgusting also."

In other Hamm news, the rumors that he was dying of throat cancer are not true.

Despite rumors floating around after news broke that the Mad Men actor, 42, would undergo throat surgery next week to remove a polyp, he told the Associated Press Thursday that he's "fine."

"It's a simple injury," he said in an interview with AP, sounding raspy. "Something that develops on your vocal cord from overuse because I talk a lot.

"Other than that, believe it or not, I'm healthy as a horse. Hoarse, get it?" he joked.

His rep confirmed to USA TODAY Tuesday that Hamm will have the "routine outpatient procedure."

Hamm  also dispelled the rumors on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday to dispel rumors. "It sounds worse than it is, although it doesn't sound as bad as how the National Enquirer reported it, which was that I was coughing up blood and probably have cancer.

"That's good to put that out there. Thanks, guys. Thanks a lot," he said jokingly.

It's hard to believe, but TV veteran  and Oak Park, Ill native

(same birthplace of Betty White) Bob Newhart has just snagged his very first Emmy.

Newhart, 84, has been nominated seven times throughout

his 52-year career, and on last Sunday night at the

Primetime Emmys telecast he was acknowledged of his win

that had taken place a week prior   at the Primetime

Creative Arts Emmys.

He was named Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on CBS' "The Big Bang Theory." He appeared as Professor Proton, the former host of a kids' science show, on an episode in May.

"They wrote an awful good script," Newhart said of his "Big

Bang Theory" colleagues. "They gave me a lot of hanging

curveballs and I kept swinging at them."

Newhart humbly told reporters backstage that he "was

totally unprepared for that," according to Entertainment Weekly.

Given the breadth and impact of his career -- from "The Bob

Newhart Show" of the early '60s and '70s to "Newhart" in the

 '80s and the short-lived "Bob" in the '90s -- it's curious how

Newhart managed to go this long without a prior win.

"The best answer to that really is whenever I was nominated, there were better people in the category than me," the star told Entertainment Weekly. "That's the truth. The best person wins. That's the way it is."

"The great thing about (the honor) is that you're voted on by

your peers, and that's very important," Newhart told CNN.

As for what's next, Newhart is working on reprising his "Big Bang Theory" role this season and, if he can help it, a number of gigs after that.

"I'm trying to drop dead on a soundstage," the 84-year-old told CNN. "That's really my ultimate goal -- to just keel over in the middle of a show."

Emmy Award winning actor and Chicago native Andre

Braugher (PICTURED RIGHT) co-stars with former SNL cast

member Andy Samberg  in Fox’s new cop comedy,“Brooklyn

 Nine-Nine,” that airs Tuesday nights.

But in order to keep some element of surprise for viewers, there's one part of the show that we didn't discuss before it aired: The unexpected twist that Andre Braugher's police captain character is gay.

"I think it's wonderful that it's part of a complex person, as opposed to the defining characteristic, because when it is the defining characteristic it's always gonna bump up, inevitably, against good taste and wind up creating an offensive stereotype," Braugher said.
"I will have a husband like everyone else has a husband or a wife, but it's going to be entirely appropriate, and that's of overwhelming importance to me.
The throwback feel of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is built into the premise. It belongs to a narrow genre, the squad room sitcom, whose most notable example remains the 1970s classic “Barney Miller.” And the relationship between Mr.
Samberg’s Detective Jake Peralta and Mr. Braugher’s Capt. Ray Holt stems from an even older and more celebrated
show: they’re a modern, manscaped version of Hawkeye Pierce and Colonel Potter in “M*A*S*H.”

Rap superstar and St Joseph, Mo, born Eminem

revealed his  Marshall Mathers 2 LP cover art recently. Prior to the reveal he  took to Twitter to propose a contest to his followers on the location of his house in Detroit's 8 Mile where he was raised after moving from Missouri .

The winner on Twitter proceeded to tweet the picture to

his followers, resulting in a retweet from Eminem, therefore revealing the cover to everyone else!

The cover shows Em's childhood home, which was also

featured on the first Marshall Mathers LP.

Marshall Mathers LP 2 contains Eminem's hit single

"Berzerk" which has a pretty angry music video and even stirred up some drama.

The former home  is also available to buy which can be  owned for a mere $1.
The Detroit house, at 19946 Dresden St., is no longer owned by Mathers or anyone in his family: It’s state property, which means it’s up for auction rather than for sale, and the minimum bid for the home, which is being auctioned by the Michigan Land Bank, is a mere buck.
The property, which measures 776 square feet and contains two bedrooms and one bathroom, has been prominently featured on two of Eminem’s album covers: First, in 2000, with The Marshall Mathers LP; and then this year, on Eminem’s seventh studio album,The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

St Louis reared fashion designer Paulie Gibson was featured in last week's episode of Americas Next Top Model 2.0 where the male and female contestants' challenge was to book a maximum of two go sees at Style Fashion Week in Los Angeles and had a chance to compete for a place for designer Gibson.

Congrats to Chicago based model and former Mista Couture

first runner up Sesamir who will be featured in a 30 page

spread for  Essence Eye Candy. Above is one of the pics

from his photo shoot. The spread will be online within weeks.

There was a special Thursday nite football game that

had taken place at Edward Jones Dome between the St

Louis Rams and the San Francisco 49ners (PICTURED

favor. The Rams are now 1-3.

All fans in attendance will receive a white #RamsPrimetime T-shirt presented by Charter, YP and Barnes-Jewish Hospital & Washington University Orthopedics. In addition, the Rams will be wearing all white uniforms for the game
For prep, a portion of Broadway in St Louis was closed hours prior and after the St. Louis Rams game Thursday night at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis for fans' safety.

OS 100--STAGE REVIEW--TOPDOG UNDERDOG@GASLIGHT THEATER UNTIL OCT 6

Dog-eats-dog on main stage
by Marcus Ma’at Atkins

“You’re only yourself when no one’s watching.”

This is one of the memorable lines quoted from the Pulitzer Prize winning stage play

“Topdog/Underdog” written by Suzi Lori Parks. It also defines a reactionary and universal trait

when it comes to surviving in a no-holds barred American socioeconomic system.

'Topdog'  is currently being staged at The Gaslight Theatre in Midtown St Louis, where St

Louis Actors  Studio opened its seventh season last weekend.

Directed by Elizabeth Helman, the two-actor play consists of two brothers. A straight laced

go-getter named Lincoln (played by Reginald Pierre) and the libidinous Booth (played by

Chauncy Thomas) who live in a run down flat in NYC and make a living hustling as a

continuously killed Abraham Lincoln impersonator at an arcade shooting gallery and a street

Three Card Monte  dealer respectively and coming to grips of  their checkered family past.

Filled with social metaphor and irony, “Topdog” delves into the psyche of the African

American man in America and how he adjusts to survival. Every detail of the dialogue mirrors

the  underlying message that black  freedom or economic independence was, and still is,

depended on white male assistance or die trying. Hence, Lincoln dressing up in costume in

whiteface becoming invisible his blackness or scheming people at The Three

Card Monte game--the winning card being the “two of spades,” symbolizing this analogy.

Although a  bit claustrophobic in its setting and farfetched in some of its explanations of their

familial past  (e.g. how they were named  and why their abandonment), what gives “Topdog” its

breath are the powerful non-verbal pathos and dialogue by the two actors, with each other

and themselves, showing a sense of reality of how people act and re-act  when they are not in

public and are in cohabitation.

Crude and poignant, “Topdog” is definitely a cathartic piece that is definitely one to be

reckoned with as a well-rounded thesis in the black male aesthetic from a point of view. It is a

definite must see and is worthy of Kevin Kline Award consideration.

First Lady Michelle Obama delivers remarks during a "Let's Move!" food marketing convening

\

First Lady Michelle Obama used the power of her bully pulpit Wednesday to push food companies and television broadcasters to do more to promote healthier foods to children — and to do it faster.
Research shows food marketing is a leading cause of childhood obesity because the ads and promotions lead impressionable kids to then pester their parents to eat what they saw on TV, consumer advocates say.
The first lady cited a "cultural shift" taking place in America's eating habits, and highlighted as examples salad bars that are now in many school lunchrooms and kids' restaurant menus that offer such items as broccoli and whole-wheat pasta.
But while she said there has been progress, including slight reductions in childhood obesity rates in a few states and cities, Mrs. Obama noted that "we clearly have much more work to do" when 1 in 3 kids in the U.S. is on track to develop diabetes.
"I'm here today with one simple request and that is to do even more and move even faster to market responsibly to our kids," the first lady said as she opened the first White House summit on the issue. Dozens of representatives from the food and media industries, advocacy and parent groups, government agencies, research institutions and others attended.
The goal, she said, is to "empower parents instead of undermining them" as they try to make the best choices for their families.

Hip hop superstar Kanye West gave an introduction to remember when he prefaced G.O.O.D. Music rapper Pusha T's My Name Is My Name listening session with a drunken rant. Laced with verbal middle fingers to "corporations" and "sellouts," it seems 'Ye is already feeling the backlash from his words.

According to Page Six, the Chicago rep is reportedly struggling to find corporate backers for his creative projects, i.e. fashion line, performances and art installations, because of said rant.
"That's why I stand next to this n-gga," Yeezy yelled while standing next to Pusha, who admitted in later interviews that he nearly fainted during the ordeal. "I don't give a f-ck about none of these corporations, none of these f-cking sellouts. This is muthaf-cking Pusha T.

Execs over at Hennessy, who threw a born day bash for Queens MC Nas the following night, were said to be disappointed when West did not show face.

Not that the Yeezus lyricist needed a sponsor when his A.P.C. clothing line dropped. The collection, chock full of white t-shirts at $120 a pop, sold out once it hit the Internet. Still, brands are apparently still skeptical to side with 'Ye.

“Sponsors are scared away because he’s so unpredictable,” a source said.

STL based director and playwright Chrys Yvette made her publicity tour rounds recently to promote her 30 day campaign to raise money for her upcoming film HAPPY HOUR that was filmed in St Louis this summer. She made a  stop at Cassandra and Kelley Show Wednesday on 1380 The Woman AM in St Louis. Pictured are Cassandra Walker Suggs, Yvette and Kelley Lamm. To donate to her campaign go to
