Have you all seen CHI-RAQ? The new Spike Lee film--that can now be viewed on Amazon Video--satirizing the killings in Chicago using the Aristophanes' Greek comedy/tragedy Lysistrata about women using their sexual power to control the wars of men. It was definitely a see mainly to see Nick Cannon who plays a hip-hop thug Chi-raq who is part of one of the street gangs in Chicago. He definitely was convincing in his role against his brand as a nerdy, goofball formerly known as Mr Mariah Carey. Well in this role, he's giving serious gangster (and for those who are into skin, he shows you a bit of his "assets.")Also good was Teyonna Paris ("Hello White People," "Survivor's Remorse") who played Lysistrata. She gave serious Pam Grier meets Angela Davis (and her body is baaaangin) in her role as the leader of the female sex strike. But, the heart of the film was Jennifer Hudson who played a single mother who's child gets killed by one of gangs. Anither mention was John Cusack as the militant preacher who eulogizes Jennifer Hudson's character's child in the funeral scene. Although her role was brief it made a lasting impression.Rounding out the cast were Samuel L. Jackson as the narrator, Angela Bassett as the mother of the neighborhood and Wesley Snipes who plays the leader of a rival gang. Overall, the film takes a bit of time to suspend the conventions of the characters talking in rhymes but after getting into the story, you will forget about that it is based during Shakespearean Greek times. Will it get any nominations during Oscar runnings? Doubt it. But it is definitely one of Spike's better films he's directed on the lines of "Do The Right Thing."
Have you all heard of the trio group KING? Three black, natural hair young ladies who was discovered by Prince on YOUTUBE and opened for him in 2011. One of their songs, "The Greatest" was played during DJ Needles Rawthentic show.OMG. Talk about heaven to the ears. Great harmony. Its ethereal soul music. They must. must, must be noticed this year. Their debut album We are King is supposed to drop next month.

Rapper Future has been trending on social media with his Twitter rant against Ciara and their Baby Future Jr, but musicwise, he signed two St Louis based artists to his FreeBand Gang label: Guccio and his son Fortune. And FYI, Future first got on in East St Louis, Ill when his first single, :Notice Me; was spun at Club Casino through Guccio's influence according to STL DJ C-Note who was also influential in the record spin as reported on Hot 104.1 Fm's website

Congrats to baseball player Ken Griffey Jr who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame! What's crazy is he didnt get a 100 percent vote from the committee. More like 99.5 percent. Like really?
Did you all see the interview that Wendy Williams had with Big Daddy Kane this week? Comments on YOUTUBE were saying that there was a sort of sexual chemistry going on. We peeped something was going on. She was very googly eyed about him and continued to say how great he looked (and he does for a brotha pushing 50) during her After show on YOUTUBE.
We will let you all be the judge. To see the clip go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVvSljqy1bs
A source of mine gave me some scoop about Chicagoan/transsexual star Sidney Starr made an appearance in St Louis at a nightclub this week, hosting a party and had everyones mouth's open when she plugged her smart phone to a slide screen and began showing pics of her being with various rappers. Our source called a witness who was there and confirmed what happened and who was seen in the pics. OMG. This is too crazy. Our question is, why would she do that? That's some dangerous territory to tread. In the past, there was a big mess about her supposed relationship with rapper Chingy and after squashing that apologizing to him but the damage was done as far as the rapper's career. Oh, and who were the rappers that were shown? That info we are going to hold ourselves, but those who were at that nightclub definitely knows. All we will say are the first initials: C, J, L, N.
St Louis is pissed off that St Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke sent a 20 plus page relocation letter to the NFL saying that the city is basically inept economically and cant handle having three sports teams in the city (The Cardinals, The Blues and The Rams). Well everyone from Mayor Francis Slay to the Rams fan is calling for his head as far as calling out the city. Well, talk is Kroenke is trying to deter the Rams from moving to L.A. who are in the running with the Oakland raiders and San Diego Chargers to also move to L.A. and be in the new stadium that Kroenke is building in Cali. All of this stemmed from the new construction of the Riverfront Stadium being built and the old Edward Jones Dome not competing with other stadiums across the country when the arbitration to revamp the Dome owned by CVC (Conventions Visitors Commission) fell through (more like CVC wasnt abiding with Kroenke's demands to pay for it). Well, the mayor sent his rebuttal to NFL (who is deciding who will move to L.A. next week) to douse the fire Kroenke started. There were also talks from STL fans to boycott his properties like Wal-mart and Sam's Well, our thing is, whats; wrong with the Rams staying here? Without a team, the STL's plan to have a team on the new stadium that was passed by Mayor and Board of Aldermen would be moot. Kroenke's letter to NFL was more his washing his hands with the team and moving forward with his stadium in L.A. (which is getting slack from the F.A.A. on its location affecting airplane signals). So we will see where this will go.

R.I.P. to Grammy Award winning singer/actress Natalie Cole who died Dec 31 at the age of 65. She was definitely a legend in her time and made a name for herself sans her music legacy with her father, Nat King Cole. She had an illustrious career and was rare in that she was able to rebrand herself and still be successful from being a Aretha-esque soul singer in the 1970s, a crossover pop singer in the 1980s and a jazz chanteuse in the 1990s. She was also the first African American artist to win the Best new Artist trophy at the 1976 Grammy Awards and the first to have two platinum albums in one year (1977). She will be greatly missed.
We also lost background artists William Guest of Gladys Knight of the Pips fame and Nicholas Caldwell of The Whispers.
OK now for the regulars:
FIT BITZ
This week we feature St Louis native model/ current Chicago resident Renata Noelle who is wearing a colorful East Indian print sundress with large blue oval earrings, yellow double pearl shaped necklace, wooden armlet and ethnic flavored bracelet and the asymetrical Pepa cut.
WORD TO THE WHYZ????
Why was that militia in Oregon giving special treatment by the police? Why did Powerball make a mistake to report the wrong numbers? Why were people thinking Janet had throat cancer? Why isnt R&B music selling? Why are Obama haters saying that POTUS had used an onion to cry and tear up during his press conference about his exec order on gun control and its policy? Why didnt actress Tasha Smith do her research on her ex husband's criminal past? Why does the Cosby arrest seem more of a tearing down of his legacy? Why cant we get a film adaptation of Good Times or a stage adaptation of Cooley High? Why did Future go on Twitter to call his ex Ciara a bitch with control issues for not letting him have their son visit him and his other children during the holidays? And why is the Netflix documentary making a Murderer getting so much bizz?
