NO. 245--47th ANNUAL NAACP IMAGE AWARD RED CARPET FASHION PIX FEB 5

PHOTOS BY NAACP IMAGE AWARDS

The 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards were aired last Friday honoring people of color in arts and entertainment. Below are some of the BEST and NOT SO BEST DRESSED on the red carpet.

BELOW ARE THE BEST DRESSED LADIES

Empire actress Serayah in this black, sleek, unique shoulderless meets an attached shoulder gown with the sexy slit.

NAACP Image award winner Sanaa Lathan wore this ravishing red shoulderless gown  with a silver trimming neckline wowing the red carpet. You cant see on this pic put her ponytail with part was everything.

Power actress Naturi Naughton looked beautiful in this plunging nackline sheer bodice gown (take notes Toccara lol). Would have been even nicer with a nice necklace but she pulled it off. Her hair also was quite lovely.

Orange is the New Black actress Laverne Cox got it right with this peach one shoulder number with train.

Singer Sevyn Streeter looked elegant in this silver satin gown with an upper  kriss kross design. Her ponytail was also snatched.

Probably the best dressed female was Empire actress and Image Award winner Taraji P. Henson wearing this beige  plunging neckline wrap gown accentuating her sleek figure, and Morticiaesque hair and eyebrows on fleek.

Actress Jurnee Smollett looked great in this off brown velvet gown. Although she didnt have accessories, she pulled it off wearing the gown bareless.

Scandal actress Darby Stanchfield looked wowing in this silver dotted sheer gown. hair and makeup were also on point.

Although weve seen Jada Pinkett Smith in this look before, the shoulderless  feathery blue green gown made her looked like royalty.

THE BEST DRESSED GENTS

NAACP Image Award winner and host looked dapper in this burgandy tux and slacks were buckle free.
Although two time NAACP Image Award winner Michael B Jordan wore this look at the Golden Globes, he still looked sharp in this black tux.
Empire actor Bryshere Gray aka Yazz gave some rock and roll flair with this teal tux and aviator shades, Those dark green suede shoes were everything.

BEST DRESSED COUPLES

Will and Jada Smith always look the look on the red carpet.

NAACP Image Award winner Jussie Smollett and Sevyn Streeter looked quite regal together,

WORST DRESSED LADIES

We are all about being different but actress/NAACP Image Award announcer Cree Summer looked like a hippie Amish person with the black hat, two long Pippi Longstocking braids, satin blue suit and silver high heel boots.

We felt sorry for those who suffered from seizures because this black and white jumpsuit with floor length flared sleeves that NAACP Image Award nominee author Anita Hawkins just needed a three ring circus as an accessory.

From reports, this gown that NAACP Image Award nominee author Nzinga Stewart wore was deigned by an African designer, but the brown, pink and yellow printed gown looked too poofey and came off as a costume. The upper portion of the gown looked much better.

Actress Monique Coleman's pieces of a dress looked as though it was a pattern that was not finished.

Although model/commentator Toccora's burgandy dress was nice, the upper portion was ill fitted with her top heavy bosoms.

The lovely actress Tika Sumpter missed the mark with this homely black and pink floral print dress. Looked like she was ready to attend a farm event.

WORST DRESSED GENTS

Scandal actor Guillermo Diaz's suit was ill fitted, slacks were flooding and that tie--NO NO.

SPECIAL MENTION

We have to give it up for NAACP Image award nominee Aunjanue Ellis who made a social statement with fashion wearing the message: Take It Down Mississippi involving the taking down of the state's flag which is of the Confederate symbol..

So do you agree with our choices? Did we miss the mark? Comment below in the comment box!

OK, NOW TO THE BITZ...

All eyes will be on Superbowl 50 this Sunday for the showdown between Cam Newton aka The Dabber and the North Carolina Panthers and Peyton Manning aka The Legacy and The Denver Broncos (And what's your over/under?) The main hype is the fact of Newton being an aggressive young and brash quarterback of color going against the legacy of the Manning Dynasty and the status quo of a quarterback being s superhero and white.

And Manning lovers hate Cam. And he knows it.

Newton is set to become only the sixth African-American quarterback in 50 years to start in the Super Bowl. The other five are Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers, retired Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabbSteve McNair of the Tennessee Titans and Williams, who is well aware that Newton cited race as a reason Newton thinks he’s been criticized so harshly this season.

“I’ve said this since Day One,” Newton said  “I’m

an African-American quarterback that scares

people because they haven’t seen nothing that

 they can compare me to.
“I think it’s a trick question,” he added. “If I

answer it truthfully, it’s going to be ‘Aw, he’s this

or that.’ But I will say it anyway: I don’t think

people have seen what I am or what I’m trying

 to do.”
On Monday, Warren Moon, one of Newton’s

 earliest mentors and most ardent

supporters, came to the QB's defense.
“You’d think he raped like five pastors’

daughters over the last five years and he’s

getting away with it the way people are talking

about him,” Moon told Fox Sports about the

 hate for Newton.
“They probably look at Cam almost like they look at

me,’’ Doug Williams told USA TODAY Sports, and with a chuckle he added, “I wish I was the athlete Cam is.”
Williams didn’t dance on the field, strike Superman poses or dazzle anyone with his running ability the way Newton does for the Super Bowl-bound Carolina Panthers. But in 1988, Williams became the first black quarterback to play in the Super Bowl. He also won the MVP award that day when he led the Washington Redskins to a 42-10 victory against the Denver Broncos while throwing for 340 yards and four touchdowns on 18-for-29 passing.

It's going to be a classic game, for sure!

This week the premiere of Ryan Murphy;s American Crime Story franchise debuted on FX with "The People v OJ." about the trial of OJ Simpson in 1994.

We caught the first episode and it was relatively good as far as its pacing of the background of the story (It started off with the aftermath/civil unrest of the Rodney King verdict n 1992). We also get a behind the scenes look of some of the characters in pay such as Marsha Clark as a working mother (played by  Sarah Paulson  ),  Johnny Cochran as a an egotistical, flamboyant style hag (Played excellently by Courtney B Vance) and Robert Shapiro (played byJohn Travolta). What is also refreshing is that Murphy gave Cuba Gooding who plays OJ a sense of humanity showing his sadness of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson being killed and no scenes of him physically or verbally abusing her (Well, at least not in the first episode).
Another plus is the casting. Although Gooding as OJ is a bit to disbelieve but he does pull it off. What we hope that this show does is open up conversation of what the real issues are in our society of how racism, sexism and the imperfections of the law and police play a part in the phobias that plague our society.

There have been talk about the actual sales of Rihanna's new, Anti. On Friday, The New York Times reported that  by Nielsen’s count, only 460 copies had been sold. That’s a shockingly low number, but as the reporter Ben Sisario wrote, it’s surely so small only because of quirks of rules and timing. The RIAA certified Anti platinum of one million sales within 14 hours of it hitting the Internet—apparently because Samsung, with whom Rihanna’s signed a reported $25 million marketing deal, bought up a million album copies that were then gifted to fans who typed in a download code.

Nielsen doesn’t count such free promotions in its numbers; the RIAA does, on the theory that they still reflect consumer demand for an album.

We think that this is what the music industry is going toward because actual sales of albums arent selling these days with the advent of downloading on the Internet and streaming services.

So this album in a way is a defining moment in music where an album goes gold or platinum through free giveaways when a company buys copies of it to give away and the DEMAND to have it and download it goes toward sales.

And speaking of the record industry, The RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of Artists have changed their certification process of what counts as a single or album going Gold or Platinum. Since 1991, singles and albums that "shipped" 500,000 copies to stores were granted a Gold Album and 1 million for a Platinum Album. This goes for sells as well. Soundscan, a service that scans music through a  bar code when bought at music outlets, helped with those sales. Now, those numbers are the sum of sales and the equivalent of sales. The formula for equivalency: “1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale.”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All eyez will be on the NAACP Image Awards that will air this Friday on TVOne. With all of the discussion of Stacey Dash's anti-black commentary and no diversity at the Oscars, this should be a very interesting show with the platform that host Anthony Anderson and the winners will have!

WORD TO THE WHYZ????

Why  is Donald Trump saying that Ted Cruz cheated for his win in the Iowa Caucuses? Why was Lady Gaga chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl? Why do we care about Blacc China? And why did Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose take a pic together at  Kris Jenner's bday party? Why are people making a stink about Kirk Franklin taking a pic in a studio with Kanye and 2 Chainz? Why is this new mosquito driven and now sexually transmitted disease Zika called Zika?
If you have a fitness pic, a style pic or an artist or event you

would like featured on SPOT BITZ, email to
