NBC’s coverage of the Olympics from Rio continued to boost the network above its rivals in the ratings.
The network’s broadcast of sundry track and field, beach volleyball and diving events helped it nab a 14.4 rating and 24 share, as well as a 7.0 rating among adults between 18 and 49.
The overall rating was more than double the combined total of ratings from Fox, ABC and CBS, while the 18-to-49 number was more than three times what Fox, CBS, ABC and CW reached.
Wednesday marked the twelfth day of summer games completion in Rio de Janeiro, with four more to go until the closing ceremony on Aug. 21.
Two of the most publicized athletes in Rio, Simone Biles and Mike Phelps, continued to make history.
Simone Biles took gold, her fourth of the Olympics and fifth medal overall, both records for an American in a single Games. While Biles is the first American to win four gymnastics gold medals at one Olympics, she joins Vera Caslavska (1968, Czechoslovakia), Larisa Latynina (1958, Soviet Union) and Ecaterina Szabo (1984, Romania) in the small group of women to pull off the feat. She joins Nastia Liukin (2008), Shannon Miller (1992) and Mary Lou Retton (1984) as the fourth American gymnast with five total medals, but Biles was the most successful of the group. Liukin and Retton only had one gold in that five, both wins in the all-around, and Miller had none.

Liukin and Retton only had one gold in that five, both wins in the all-around, and Miller had none.
In order to get that fourth gold, Biles had to beat out the rest of the field on floor, arguably her strongest event. Like most of the competition, Biles pulled away from the pack. With a nearly flawless routine — she had not just the highest start value (16.9), but also the highest execution score (9.066) — Biles won the event by 0.466. That’s the second biggest margin of victory in an event final, behind what Biles did on vault Sunday.
With the fourth gold and fifth medal overall, Biles wrapped up what was arguably the most dominant performance by any Olympic gymnast.
In his final race before retirement, the most decorated Olympian in history led the U.S. to victory in the 400-meter medley relay at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium on Saturday.
Phelps finished a career that spanned five Olympics with 28 medals, 23 of them gold. No other athlete in any sport has more than nine gold medals. He entered the Rio Games as the most decorated Olympian in history, with 22 medals, including 18 golds, and added five golds and a silver during eight days of competition. His other victories came in the two freestyle relays, the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley, in which he became the third American Olympian after the track and field athletes Al Oerter and Carl Lewis to win the same event four times.
After 63 races spread over five Olympics, covering 11,800 meters, Phelps is finished. He was overcome with emotion after the race, tearing up as he gathered his relay mates in a huddle and told them what a privilege and an honor it had been to swim his last race with them. He walked off the deck for the last time to a standing ovation.
The other Olympic vet, track star Usain Bolt's quest to stay perfect at three Olympics remained alive Thursday night as the world's fastest man cruised to a gold in his best event - the 200m - to win his eighth gold medal in eight Olympic races and his second so far in Rio. Before Sunday, no one had ever won three-straight running events at an Olympics. Now, Bolt has done it twice and will attempt to put a cherry on the top of his eight-year odyssey with a final gold in the 4x100 relay. Bolt, at 29 years and 363 days of age, surpassed Michael Johnson, (28 years and 323 days, in 1996) as the oldest gold medallist in this event.
That race was classic as he shook his finger at Andre De Grasse who came in second, doing serious trash-fingering. lol
Talk show and commentary agent Larry Wilmore's "Nightly Show" has gotten cancelled after 18 months on Comedy Central. The Daily Show, says Nightly’s ratings and social media buzz were not strong enough.
“We started our show thinking all the good bad race stuff was done already, but apparently we were wrong,” he told viewers Tuesday night. “And we’ve covered race from just about every angle you can think of.”
In an interview with The Post, Wilmore said he was told last Thursday of the cancellation and that it came as “a shock.” “Even if we weren’t picked up for the next season, I thought we’d be on at least through the election,” he said.
In Jan. 2015, the veteran writer-producer and former “senior black correspondent” for “The Daily Show”took over the 11:30 time slot previously held by “The Colbert Report,” becoming late-night’s only black host before Trevor Noah inherited “The Daily Show” from Jon Stewart.
On Monday’s show — his first since the cancellation was announced — Wilmore made a pointed joke that highlighted the show’s unique perspective.
“My only regret is that we won’t be around to cover this truly insane election season,” Wilmore said. “On the plus side, our show going off the air has to only mean one thing: Racism is solved. We did it.”
The 34-year-old Spears will release her new album, "Glory," two days before the VMAs. Spears's VMA career has included five wins and 28 nominations.
Wonder if she will bring that snake on stage. LOL
The 2016 Finals MVP said his "dream is to actually own a team" in the NBA.
James made the comments during Wednesday's episode of the "Open Run" podcast, which is co-hosted by actor Jesse Williams and Stefan Marolachakis.
"I feel like my brain, as far as the game of basketball, is unique and I would love to continue to give my knowledge to the game," James said. "And I would love to be a part of a franchise, if not at the top. My dream is to actually own a team, [but] I don't need to [be] fully hands-on. If I'm fortunate enough to own a team, then I'm going to hire the best GM and president that I can."
He also said he has a good eye for the character and passion of players, which would help as an owner.James signed a new three-year contract with the Cavaliers this year that's worth about $100 million. He also has a lucrative lifetime endorsement deal with Nike.
Good for him. James is inching closer of becoming this generation's Michael Jordan.
Within the last five years, Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson was involved in a few incidents that led to his firing from the hit show, it has been reported.
Multiple industry sources with knowledge of the situation told Variety.com that the actor had three strikes against him including the most recent incident when he kicked producer Virgil Williams.
Gibson, who has played the role of Special Agent Aaron Hotchner since 2005, was fired by Criminal Minds producers ABC Studios and CBS Television after the incident during the production of an episode that Gibson was directing.
The alleged shoving incident came after Gibson had filmed a chase scene in which he had to drive quickly across the bridge. After the take, he yelled and confronted Woolf about safety concerns and Woolf yelled back, sources told Variety. Gibson then reportedly shoved the director with both hands. \
And in January 2013, the star's 'second strike' came when he pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving after being arrested on suspicion of a DUI.
Sources told Variety that Gibson could be personable and friendly but other times quick to anger.
He and his co-star Shemar Moore, who left the show at the end of last season, had a tense relationship because sources said, Moore's late arrivals aggravated Gibson.
Rap mogul Nelly will be adding a symphony to his concert resume as he and the St Louis Symphony will perform next February at Powell Symphony Hall. The event will feature twists on Nelly’s hits. This will be the second time that the rap superstar performed with an orchestra. In July, he
performed with a symphonic concert with the
Pittsburgh Symphony in Pittsburgh, Pa.
This is a great idea to mesh hip hip with the
symphony and Nelly is mainstream enough for it to
be pulled off. It is also an indication of .the Hamilton
effect taking effect.

From reports, nonprofit agency called HOME (House of Miles East St. Louis) is close to opening up a museum at jazz legend Miles Davis childhood home in East St Louis. It started a project to restore Davis’ childhood home at 1701 Kansas Ave. in East St. Louis, Illinois. The home, where Davis lived in the 1920s, will be turned into a museum and education center. The renovation project was started in 2011 and is expected to be completed later this year.
The organization started a GoFundMe campaign to help finance the project. According to an article on the St. Louis Public Radio website, the interior of the one-story structure is skeletal — all bare studs and dust, but the developers hope the home will eventually inspire children.
The structure is intended to be a repository of artifacts from Davis’ time in the city and preserve stories from Davis’ childhood. Organizers also expect to develop educational programs that include music classes, history lessons, and community stewardship targeted at 6- to 12-year-olds. The founders are working out a partnership with the local school district to develop programs in the classroom and at the museum.
