ACT ONE (NOT SEEN)

Our protagonists, Juanita (Tyson) and Bert Goodluck are taking their final bows of their hit Broadway play, Ossie and Ruby, on October 2, 2023,  which has been on Broadway at The August Wilson Theatre in New York since April 27, 2023.

Juanita has become the Toast of Broadway with her outstanding performance as legendary stage and TV actress Ruby Dee while her husband, Bert played Ossie Davis, Ruby's husband. Bert was one of the producers of the play along with renowned theatre producer Harry Gardner who bought the rights to the veteran acting couple's joint autobiography, In This Life Together (2000) and worked with Bert on other theatre projects in his 20 plus year career. Juanita, who is a veteran movie actress, came to the project under Bert's influence, as a greenhorn.

Tension between The Goodlucks came about when Juanita was receiving the rave reviews for the play in such publications such as Variety and Playbill. Meanwhile, Bert, for the first time in his theatre career, had to play second fiddle to his wife.

Also, backstage, heated arguments ensued between them before and after the shows mainly about how he felt she tried to upstage him each show to the point where their publicist, Lynne Goodluck, Juanita's niece, had to be backstage with them to calm the peace so no rumors of conflict or tension would leak to Page Six of the New York Post.

Act One ends six months later in April 2024 when Juanita is at her lavish Chelsea apartment in New York with Lynne and its Thespy Award Nominations Day (The Thespy being a prestigious award in theatre).

During this time, she gets a call from her agent about a two multi-million dollar picture deal with her film company in Los Angeles-a first for her career, Lynne reports to her that the critics predict she may not get one of five slots for Best Actress in a Play at the Thespy Awards,  and Juanita makes the tough decision to turn down Bert's offer to tour with Ossie and Ruby.

MAATOLOGY PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS THE GOODLUCKS AT THE 2024 HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL

It’s awards season and a married couple, The Goodlucks, is on edge when there is buzz from their critically acclaimed stage play they performed and produced.

Produced and directed by Hollywood Fringe Festival veteran Maat Atkins, The Goodlucks is a story about the value of awards in the entertainment industry and how it effects people’s mindset and ego.

Set in Chelsea, NY present day, the cast of characters are the husband, Bert Goodluck, a stalwart theater actor who produced the hit Broadway stage play Ossie and Ruby, on the life of acting husband and wife Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. His wife, Juanita Tyson, who co stars in the play, is a successful film star, who became the star of the play, yet reluctantly wants to continue with a tour of the play.

Conflict ensues when the couple gets anxious of the possibility of becoming the first African American married couple to be nominated for a major theater award.

Rounding out the cast of characters are Bailey Goodluck, the non binary Gen Zer and LGBTian daughter; George Dandridge, the best friend and acting colleague to Bert; and Lynne, the niece and publicist to Juanita.

THE 2024 ST LOUIS MAYORs BALL @UNON STATION FEB 9, 2024

PHOTOS AND VIDS BY MAATOLOGY

YOURS TRULY AT THE EVENT

BELOW ARE PICS FROM THE BALL

BELOW ARE LINKS TO YOURS TRULYS WALK THROUGH OF THE EVENT

NOTE: YOURS TRULY ATTENDED THIS YEARS MAYORS BALL THAT  WAS  HELD AT UNION STATION. IT WAS A FESTIVE OCCASION WITH PARTY PEOPLE CELEBRATING MARDIS GRAS LAST FRIDAY FEB 9.

OVERALL  SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE ATTENDED AND  IT WAS DECENT--FREE FOOD   AND DRINK AND VARIOUS AREAS OF VIP, BUT ONE DRAWBACK WAS IT WAS EXTREMELY DARK IN THE MAIN AREA AND ONE OF THE VIP AREAS.

MANY OF THE SEATED AREAS WITH PEOPLE WERE SEATED IN VERY DIMLY LIT AREAS.  THE VENDING BOOTH AREAS WERE LOCATED IN FRONT OF BACK WALLS IN THE CORNER WHERE THERE WAS BAREALY ANY LIGHT TO  SEE. WHAT WAS GOIING ON UNLESS YOU WALKED DIRECTLY TO THE VENDORS WHICH INCLUDED PANCAKAE MAKERS, CARICATURE PORTRAIT DRAWERS AND THE 360 PHOTO  BOOTH.

THE ENTERTAINMENT WAS OK (JUGGLERS, AERIAL SPINNERS, BRASS AND COVER BANDS) BUT THERE WEREN'T ANY HIGHLIGHTED MOMENTS.  IT WAS FESTIVE ENOUGH FOR THE REVELERS TO DANCE AND MINGLE THE NIGHT AWAY. THE MAYOR, TISHAURA JONES, WHO WAS WEARING A RUFFLED TANNISH GOWN, CAME THROUGH DURING THE HEIGHT OF TEH EVENT TO SCHMOOZE WITH EVERYONE.

OUR SUGGESTION: BRING BACK THE DIRTY MUGGS TO CLOSE OUT THE EVENT LIKE LAST YEAR. THE DEE-JAY WAS OK MIXING HIP HOP AND OLD MOTOWN SONGS (THE DJ'S NAME SLIPS US) BUT AN ENERGETIC BAND WAS NEEDED.

SPECIFICALLY THE ENTERTAINMENT AND VENDORS INCLUDED  THE PLAYADORS, THE RED AND BLACK BRASS BAND , PANCAKKE ART BY THE JOY OF PANCAKES, BODY ART FROM THE GLITTER BAR .

AFTER THE EVENT, THERE WAS A PRIVATE AFTER PARTY AT THE CURIO AT THE HILTON PRODUCED BY STL PROMOTER NIDDY GRITTY AND HOSTE DBY MOHA LATTE. WE SAW AND HEARD THAT IT WAS LIIT WIITH BIG BRASS BAND AND DJ CUDDY ON THE 1S AND 2S AND WE HEAR IT WAS PACKED! THE MAYOR WAS ALSO THERE.
