YOURS TRULY holding a movie pass for the advance screening of the film, "Black and Blue" that was held this past Wednesday at Ronnie's 20 Cinema in South County.
This past Wednesday, I had the opportunity of going to an advance screning for a film. Its been a few years since I did one of these (I cannot even remember the last advance screener I attended! Maybe Seven Pounds by Will Smith.LOL). But thanks to a longtime friend, event promoter Mocha Latte (who hosted the screening)she invited me to the screening of the upcoming film, "Black And Blue" at Ronnies 20 (The theater that has the plush black leather recliners as you watch the screen).
When I got there, I found out there were two theaters showing the movie and got in line at one where a line started.
I also found out that we either had to take out phones back to our car or have the theater supervisors hold your phone in a secured box until after the film, but wont take responsibility if the phone end up missing (Most people chose to have their phones secured.).
Then, I saw St Louis Post Dispatch's Kevin Johnson with a guest and we glanced at each other and waved.

Next I hear a "Whoooooo". I look around, its Latte who walked through with her assistants (One was Mousie Haley who I saw and greeted with a juicy cheek kiss LOL) who was wearing this BAAAAD multi color and glittered coat that shimmered as she walked through the crowd. I managed to get her attention to ask what was the set up for the lines? She gave me the skinny and then quipped, "I know you dont like doing lines."LOL
Because I told the supervisors I was media, I was able to keep my phone but I was just not allowed to turn it on.
Before the screening, Latte introduced some of the businesses who was in the movie house (some were at the other movie house) who introduced their businesses to the crowd. Those who repped and donated were:

AND Now, my take on the movie.
Tyrese plays a local store worker who helps Harris in her plight to whistleblow within the police department. He is also good in a subdued role. Another highlight is the brief role by Mike Colter (of "Luke Cage" fame) playing a pimped out street king whose buffed out menacing look alone will keep your attention.
Although the film gave a summer time movie type vibe as far as its explosive action and fight scenes and car crashes but to be quite honest, Harris performance alone in this movie should start the award buzz for her as well as it has been buzzing for J Lo in "Hustlers."
Its also rare that African American actresses get a lead role in a action type film (Pam Girer, Angela Bassett and Taraji P Henson comes to mind who did it prior) and Harris can be added in that Bad Ass Femaleness.
Overall, the film is relevant especially as the conversation about police brutality in the urban streets has been in the current headlines. On a deeper level, it addresses how black cops mentally cope with the politics of being part of police culture as it relates to urban communities that despises the police (As one police officer tells Harris's character "You are blue now.")
Despite a few Hollywood conventions (eg. The happy ending cliche) and a vague narrative on Harris' character sexuality, "Black and Blue" is definitely a movie that you will not want to lounge and sleep on. And if you do, the clapping you will hear from audience goers will make you hate you took a nap!
The film opens nationwide Oct 25.

St Louis native Joel P.E. King has an Acting Course. It’s for children and adults. The times and days are as follow:
October 21st - 26th
Monday thru Friday
Children/Young Adults: 4:30pm - 6:30pm (early arrivals are welcomed)
Adults/Seniors: 7:00pm - 9:30pm
Saturday classes are from 11 - 3pm
6pm begins the Culminating Show on that day. It’s the public performance to showcase what you have learned for the week.

For this week, I have one
Recently, I went to Office Depot on Lindell to get some copies done of a document . Just minding my business and I look to my left and my eyes saw a color of pink. Long pink. Long straight pink.
As you see in the pic, this young lady had on this pink weave that I said to myself," Does she think that looks good?"
Now, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with fashion and expression, but it looked like ratted Halloween costume wig .
And then have a black sweatband to hold the wig together.
Too much indeed!
Then I thought, "If her head itches, how is she gonna scratch her head? Will she have to take off the headband???
