BLIND PICZ

Who is the lady who was wearing the orange party dress at the Sexy In STL Fall Into Sexy party last Sunday at Red Loft Studios?

BLIND DISH
Which STL based rapper was having a conversation recently with someone on the cell phone at a STL area fitness gym center  about his pet peeve about people not texting him back? He goes by one name and the last letter ends with "Y" (No its not Nelly or Chingy). Do you know who it is?

This week we spotlight two STL mover and shakers who were fashion forward recently. The fashionista is  model/podcast host Paris Caldwell,  who hosts a weekly podcast show every Thursday  called Goin Back To Indiana at  http://mixlr.com/myrhythmnation/, wore an elegant low cut purple party dress at Sexy In the STL's Fall Into Sexy red carper event Sunday. She also had purple eye shadow that blended nicely with her dress (and her black sparkled heels ere also on point). The dapper dan is event promoter Stuart Allen, CEO of F*ck You Im Famous and the mainstay events at Oz and Europe nightclubs (aka the Hefner of STL) had a birthday party at Mosaic Lounge recently and he sported a shiny gray suit coat that set off his dressy casual look and the eyeglasses accessory added to his preppie look.

Why is Mitt Romney say he didn’t elegantly speak properly about the 47 percent of Obama supporters depend on government? And Why did his running mate Paul Ryan say he wasn’t articulate? Why did talk show host David Letterman say to President Obama ‘You haven’t seen me naked’ while he was on his show recently? Why do people put their personal business on Facebook?  Why does DL Hughley care if Lupe Fiasco isn’t going to vote in the upcoming Presidential election? And why is is Psy such a new media success with that  Gangam dance and song?

Which STL venue has record albums in their hallway?

DISH OF THE WEEK

We hear that a STL based venue is temporarily closed due to liquor license issues. The venue is located on Delmar where many special events occur there including a "lyrical" one. Which venue do you think it is?

This week we introduce a new section called YOUVE GOT STYLE where we select movers and shakers or everyday people who made an impact on their style of dress this week captured by us from the OUTCAM or just perusing pics on Facebook or the Internet. This week we feature STL movers and shakers  Tendai Morris and twins Jeremi and Justin Farrar.

Tendai Morris (LEFT) who is a singer, songwriter, hairstylist and host of the long running monthly R&B showcase Cafe Soul at the Coliseum (next one is Sept 22), made this pic her profile pic on Facebook  that the OUTCAM had taken of her last month at Cafe Soul. Always the trendsetter, she rocked the long gold earrings that were made of metal and when extended became large squares.  Then the Farrar Twins (Jeremi and Justin),who are gearing up for the debut of their STL based weekly Forbidden Fridays event at The Venue, are always on Facebook posting cam pics while  in the mirror in various dress and undress showing off their abs), but these guys when dressed sport fly gear including the funky black casual gear in the above pic at an event at The Venue showcasing their own unique style.

OS27--JPEK PRESENTS "STAND YOUR GROUND" @GRANDEL SQUARE THEATRE AUG 24-26; ENCORE AUG 30-31

‘Stand Your Ground’ Takes Hold On Law & Outcome
By Marcus Ma’at Atkins

Photos by Ma'atology

A scene from "Stand Your Ground" of community protesters

As the world awaits the verdict from the now infamous tragedy of teen Trayvon Martin being slain by neighborhood watcher George Zimmerman, a stageplay that was recently staged at the Grandel Square Theatre has pulled straight from the context of that incident  with the topical title, “Stand Your Ground.”

Directed by East St Louis native actor/director Joel P.E. King, “Stand Your Ground:, which had its encore performances last weekend, played up more like a fictionalized account of a foreshadowing of a NOT GUILTY verdict on a stand your ground case involving the death a young black teen and a white neighborhood watch member and how the community reacts from it.

The cast of 'Stand Your Ground' taking a bow.

This ensemble cast’s pivotal characters evolve around an interracial married couple (played excellently by Ptosha Storey and Eric Nelson) and how and their lives (as well as their community) are unraveled when one of their sons is murdered by a racist neighborhood watcher.

Part didactic, “Stand Your Ground” is social  commentary about the current state between the races.  Although some of the scenes seemed a bit fillerish (e.g. the husband and the wife's sister scene), its relative in regards to the timely social bubble of the play. It also was refreshing to hear the backstory of the killer to give the character more of a redemptive quality when it came to his reason for killing  which is rare in stories about a villainous  and deeply hated character.

There was also comic relief within the play with the interracial couple's ample, Jamaican accented, karate-toting housekeeper (played by Black Pearl) that, although didn't carry much to the storyline, was definitely needed to help offset the heaviness of the play.

The director of 'Stand Your Ground', Joel P.E. King (fourth from left) addressing the crowd.

“Stand Your Ground” not only gave discourse on the topic of self defense and vigilantism, but it also quantified other issues and such as commentary on miscegenation, corporal punishment and rape.  King has staged a hard pill of reality to swallow, but after seeing it,  conversation and discussion on the controversial law was increased tenfold on the possibilities of a NOT GUILTY verdict with the Martin/Zimmeran case.
