Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

Congrats to Chicago native Bobby Saleem who came in third in the finals of The Biggest Loser game competition that aired this week. The 28-year-old attorney  shed 188 pounds (and came out to his family during the competition)started out weighing 358 pounds, but lost 188 pounds by the finale weighing in at 170.

He made a joke on the finale that he wished he broke the 160s, but after the audience shrilled at his comment he said that he was only kidding---that may have been because of how VERY thin he looked.

Congrats are also in store for Chicago Bears cornerback

Charles Tillman who was announced as the Walter Payton

NFL Man of the Year at "NFL Honors" on Saturday at a gala

in New York.  He was also honored prior to the Superbowl

game at Metlife  Stadium on Sunday.

A finalist for the award in 2011 and  the winner of the NFL

Salute to Service Award in 2012, Tillman has impacted

countless people in the Chicago area  through his

Cornerstone Foundation.

FOOD BITEZ

This week we feature chili.
Chili con carne (“chili with meat”), more commonly known in American English as simply “chili”, is a spicy stew containing chili peppers, meat (usually beef), tomatoes and often beans. Other seasonings may include garliconions, and cumin. Variations, both geographic and personal, may involve different types of meat, as well as a variety of other ingredients. The variant recipes provoke disputes among aficionados, some of whom insist that the word “chili” applies only to the basic dish. Chili is a frequent dish for cook-offs. It is also used as an ingredient in a number of other dishes. The recipe used by American frontier settlers consisted of dried beef, suet, dried chili peppers and salt, which were pounded together, formed into bricks and left to dry, which could then be boiled in pots on the trail.[citation needed]
The San Antonio Chili Stand, in operation at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, helped people from other parts of the United States taste and appreciate chili. San Antonio was a significant tourist destination and helped Texas-style chili con carne spread throughout the South and West.[1] Chili con carne is the official dish of the U.S. state of Texas as designated by the House Concurrent Resolution Number 18 of the 65th Texas Legislature during its regular session in 1977.[2]\

This week we feature the fashionistas Ola and Seviin Li, who both celebrated their bdays this week at Monarch's in Manchester, Mo.. Ola (left) wore a lovely shimmery and stringy above knee dress with gold ringlets as earrings and  a necklace and Seviin wore a hot shiny green shorts set with a blinged out chain neck-shoulder-lace.

SUPERBOWL:Why was Peyton Manning not having a good game? Why were the commercials not memorable this year? Why were the Red Chilli Peppers added to Bruno Mars' Half Time show? Why were the cameras always on Richard Sherman?  And Why did one of the broadcasters call Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson a game manager?

OTHER WHYZ:Why is George Zimmerman having a pay per view boxing match? And why did DMX accept to fight him? Why did the governor of Russia say that gay people should not touch children when they come to the Olympics? And why did he dis POTUS for not attending? Why are the King brothers (Dexter and Martin III) trying to sell their father's Nobel Peace prize and suing their sister for it?Why is Clay Aiken running for political office? And why is Jerry Springer's show still on air?
