ILLI MO SPOTLIGHT

As reported, Samsung has gone one selfie too far with its viral marketing, earning a rebuke from the White House after it distributed a photo of President Obama and Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz.(Photo by Jewel Samad Getty Images)

The selfie was reportedly taken during a visit to the White House this week by the 2013 World Series winners. Ortiz, who has an endorsement deal with Samsung, reportedly  put the photo on Twitter, and the electronics company reportedly  re-tweeted the post to its 5.2 million followers.
But turning the event into a promotional exercise for Samsung was apparently not on the White House's agenda.
"I can say that as a rule, the White House objects to attempts to use the president's likeness for commercial purposes," White House press secretary Jay Carney said Thursday. "And we certainly object in this case."
Carney declined to say whether White House lawyers were in contact with Samsung, saying that he would not comment on "counsel's discussions."
Samsung (SSNLF) reportedly did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But the company said in a statement to the Boston Globe on Tuesday that it was "thrilled to see the special, historic moment David Ortiz captured with his Galaxy Note 3."
"When we heard about the visit to the White House, we worked with David and the team on how to share images with fans. We didn't know if or what he would be able to capture using his Note 3 device."
At the time, the selfie reportedly appeared to be an unscripted moment -- and one the president clearly enjoyed.
"Alright come on, let's get a good picture here," Obama told Ortiz after the slugger presented him with a Red Sox jersey .
"Actually, do you mind if I take my own?" Ortiz countered.
"Oh, he wants to do a selfie," Obama said, drawing laughter from the crowd. "It's the Big Papi selfie."
Asked about the episode, Ortiz said the selfie was spontaneous.
"I wasn't trying to do anything," Ortiz told the Boston Globe. "It just happened in that moment. It was a fun thing. I signed that deal with Samsung a few months ago. They didn't know what would happen. Nobody did."
While the administration is  reportedly clearly keen to protect Obama's image, it's not clear whether the White House would have any legal basis for a complaint. Obama's likeness has been used in a variety of commercial ventures since he was first elected, including anunauthorized Times Square billboard that featured the president wearing a Weatherproof Garment Company coat.
Samsung has previously used celebrity selfies to market its products, including one featuring Ellen DeGeneres taken at the Oscars.
We think it was an innocent moment and not intentional on Ortiz spot....but one thing for sure, Samsung is getting beucoup publicity for its Galaxy product!

Before St Louis native actor Jon Hamm was playing winning female viewers’ hearts as Don Draper on “Mad Men,” he had a tougher time with the ladies as a contestant on a dating game show.
TMZ posted the clip of Hamm in 1996 on a show called “The Big Date.” On the show, he competed against two other men to win a date with a female contestant named Mary. Even though Hamm promised her a fabulous night, Mary picked another guy over Hamm.
Well, nothin new in Hollywood to scrounge up pics or videos of celebrities before they were famous (eg Penthouse publishing old school nude pics of Vanessa Williams)..we are sure the gatekeepers were ready to spring this old school vault moment....

In other Hamm newz, he attended the premiere of the

seventh and final season of his hit show Mad Men at

This week we lost a great music artist. Frankie Knuckles, an American DJ, and record producer.[1] Born in  The Bronx, New York; he later moved to Chicago. He played an important role in developing and popularizing house music in Chicago during the 1980s when the genre was in its infancy. Due to his importance in the development of the genre, Knuckles was often known as "The Godfather of House Music",[4] and as such the city of Chicago named a stretch of street and a day after Knuckles in 2004. His accomplishments earned him a Grammy Award in 1997. Knuckles was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2005 as recognition for his achievements. He was 59.

The Blues defeated the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in front of 16,146 at Scottrade Center on Thursday, becoming the winningest regular-season team in the 46-year history of the franchise. The victory also pulled the Blues even in points with Boston atop the NHL standings. From the win, The Blues are headed to the playoffs for the third consecutive year, and fans will be able to get their hands on tickets starting April 5.The NHL playoffs start Wednesday, April 16.The Blues record in the NHL and the Central Division standings with a record of 50-16-7 and 107 points.

From reports, a fan group known as Keep the Rams in St. Louis has formed. On Saturday from noon till about 5 p.m., it will hold its first event — a fan rally in Laclede’s Landing.
“Especially after Stan Kroenke bought that land in LA, we decided that maybe we need to have our voices heard with the Rams’ brass, with the city government, the CVC, the state government — and just let them know that we want them to do everything they possibly can to keep the team here,” said Gary Weed, one of the group’s unofficial spokesmen.
The Rams are reportedly less than a year away from becoming franchise free agents — free to break their stadium lease without any penalty from the powers that be in St. Louis.
The most likely scenario is that the Rams will continue playing on a year-to-year lease at the Edward Jones Dome while the team and civic/government leaders continue to work on the stadium.
We think the Rams are leaving after next season....theres no way we see the city paying for most of the bill a new stadium for The Rams.
St Louis native artists Tiffany Foxx and Indiana Rome will be the opening cats for this years Superjam  that will take place at The Scott Trade  Center on June 21. Rome won a competition sponsored by WHHL FM at The Loft Nightclub this week to  be an opener.

FOOD BITEZ

America's past time is baseball. One of the staple foos sold as baseball games is the hot dog.
hot dog is a cooked sausage, traditionally grilled or steamed and served in a sliced bun as a sandwich.[2][3][4][5] Hot dog variantsinclude the corn dog dipped in corn batter and deep fried, pigs in blankets wrapped in dough, baked, and served as hors d'oeuvres, and Beanie Weenies chopped and mixed with baked beans. Typical hot dog garnishes include mustardketchuponions, mayonnaiserelishcheesechili, and sauerkraut.
The sausages were culturally imported from Germany and popularized in the United States, where they were a working class street food sold at hot dog stands that came to be associated with baseball and America. Hot dog preparation and condiment styles also vary regionally across the United States. The hot dog's cultural traditions include the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest andWienermobile.
Claims about hot dog invention are difficult to assess, as stories assert the creation of the sausage, the placing of the sausage (or another kind of sausage) on bread or a bun as finger food, the popularization of the existing dish, or the application of the name "hot dog" to a sausage and bun combination most commonly used with ketchup or mustard and sometimes relish.
The word frankfurter comes from FrankfurtGermany, where pork sausages similar to hot dogs originated.
Others have supposedly invented the hot dog. The idea of a hot dog on a bun is ascribed to the wife of a German named Antonoine Feuchtwanger, who sold hot dogs on the streets of St. Louis, MissouriUnited States, in 1880, because his customers kept taking the white gloves handed to them for eating without burning their hands.[12] Anton Ludwig Feuchtwanger, a Bavarian sausage seller, is said to have served sausages in rolls at the World's Fair–either the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago or the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St Louis[13]–again allegedly because the white gloves he gave to customers so that they could eat his hot sausages in comfort began to disappear as souvenirs.[14]
The association between hot dogs and baseball began as early as 1893 with Chris von der Ahe, a German immigrant who owned not only the St. Louis Browns, but also an amusement park.[15]
Another claim of inventing the hot dog is told by Harry M. Stevens, an American sports concessionaire whose vendors sold German sausages and rolls to spectators at the old New York Polo Grounds during the winter. He called them "Dachshund sandwiches", but a New York Post cartoonist "couldn't spell dachshund, so when he drew the cartoon, he called them hot dogs."[16]
In 1916, a Polish American employee of Feltman's named Nathan Handwerker was encouraged by Eddie Cantor and Jimmy Durante, both working as waiters/musicians, to go into business in competition with his former employer.[17] Handwerker undercut Feltman's by charging five cents for a hot dog when his former employer was charging ten.[17]
At an earlier time in food regulation, when the hot dog was suspect, Handwerker made sure that men wearing surgeon's smocks were seen eating at Nathan's Famous to reassure potential customers.[14]

This week we feature St Louis based web developer, and education tool creator (and  2012 Obsdn Calendar model) Divine Jarred who is sporting a business casual look with a light brown blazer, long sleeve white collar shirt (check out those cuff links), jeans and brown boots.
