THE TOP ILLI-MO STORY THIS WEEK IS:

UPDATE:

According to report, former Chicagoan news anchor Lester Holt won in total viewers in his first week as the official anchor of NBC’s “Nightly News”  Mr. Holt brought in eight million viewers compared to 7.7. million for ABC’s “World News Tonight.”
Mr. Holt also bested David Muir’s ABC broadcast in the demographics important to advertisers. “Nightly News” had 1.97 million viewers compared to ABC’s 1.93 million viewers in the 25-to-54-year-old category, and Mr. Holt drew 1.43 million viewers among 18-to-49-year-olds, compared to Mr. Muir’s 1.32 million, according to data from Nielsen.
It was NBC’s biggest audience since April and its biggest lead in total viewers since March.
On June 18, NBC formally announced that Mr. Holt would replace Brian Williams as the chief anchor for NBC’s evening newscast, with Mr. Williams sliding over to MSNBC. Since the announcement, NBC, for the first time in earnest, has been promoting Mr. Holt as the face of its evening news broadcast. The network held off any such promotions during the four months it took to decide what to do with Mr. Williams, who was suspended for fabricating a story about his experience during a helicopter attack in Iraq.
Mr. Holt reassured NBC executives during that period, when he mostly held
his own in what has been a tight ratings race with ABC.

It looks like Mr Holt should be getting than $6 million

bonus in his salary to match Mr Williams' $10 milli.

ABC has just announced plans to revamp the celebrity game show, To Tell The Truth,
which originally aired in the 1950s and 60s, and one of the panelists will be Emmy
Award winning Oak Park, Ill. native Betty White who just wrapped up her six season
stint on the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleavland.
According to Deadline, the network has locked down White as a celebrity judge, along
with reality show star NeNe Leakes, and The New York Postreports that a third
panelist will likely be named soon.
ABC has To Tell The Truth slated to run for six episodes. Each will feature three contestants who are tasked with convincing the judges that they are the same person with a unique talent, occupation, or achievement. The rub, of course, is that only one of the contestants is giving the straight dope. It’ll be up to the judges to question the contestants and determine who’s being honest and who’s bluffing. Filming of To Tell The Truth has begun on July 2.
We wonder if Betty even knows who Nene is but some
black woman with a blonde wig. LOL

According to espn.com, Chicago native basketball superstar
Dwyane Wade accepted a one-year, $20 million deal Thursday to stay with the Heat next season, ending his latest foray into free agency and wrapping up a weeks-long saga that had him seriously wondering about leaving Miami for the first time.
A pair of conversations, first with Heat CEO Nick Arison and then with managing general partner Micky Arison, reminded Wade of what he meant to the team. From there it was a matter of making numbers work.

"Sitting down with Nick, sitting down with Micky and having conversations with them that I've never had, that was big for me," Wade told The Associated Press. "I've never had a business conversation with one of them. ... They got to show me how much they really wanted me to be here, how important it was for them that I continue to wear one jersey."
Without those conversations, Wade said, "I don't think we would be at this point."
Per NBA rules, the Heat could not comment other than saying that they intend to enter into a contract with Wade once the NBA moratorium period ends. Wade cannot sign his new deal until July 9.
Come on Dwyane, you knew your agent had your back. LOL
According to the AP,  The Cardinals said Thursday that they
have fired scouting director Chris Correa, the first known
fallout from the hacking scandal that has resulted in a
federal investigation into whether the team illegally got
inside the player personnel database of the Houston Astros.

The Cardinals declined to say why Correa was fired but confirmed that he had been let go a day earlier after a team-imposed leave of absence. The team is investigating the alleged hacking, as is the FBI.
"At this time, it's still an ongoing investigation and there's really nothing more I can add at this point," general manager John Mozeliak said before a game against the San Diego Padres.
Jim Martin, an attorney hired by the Cardinals in February, declined to say how long Correa had been on leave. Correa, who was promoted to director of amateur scouting during the offseason, shepherded some of the team's top draft picks this season to interviews at Busch Stadium just a few weeks ago.
Martin said no other employees had been terminated and the investigation wasn't done.

"I can't give you an end point," he said, "but our internal review is still ongoing."
Nicholas Williams, an attorney for Correa, said in a statement that Correa "denies any illegal conduct" and instead pointed at the Astros.
"The relevant inquiry should be what information did former St. Louis Cardinals employees steal from the St. Louis Cardinals organization prior to joining the Houston Astros, and who in the Houston Astros organization authorized, consented to, or benefited from that roguish behavior," said Williams, who didn't return a message left seeking additional comment.
Is it a coincidence that he was fired? Hmm, looks quite
suspect, but we are sure there are more people who will be purged from the organization.

Speaking of changes in a sports organization, St Louis Blues let go of TJ Oshie.
On Thursday they  sent forward T.J. Oshie to the Washington Capitals in
exchange for Troy Brouwer, goaltender Pheonix Copley and a third-round draft
pick in the 2016 NHL draft.
"T.J. is an outstanding skater with a tremendous skill set," Capitals general manager
Brian MacLellan said in a team statement. "He is a powerful player and has consistent
track record of production throughout his career in the NHL. We feel that he complements our core group nicely and can help us get to the next level in achieving our ultimate goal.
We also want to thank Troy for his contributions to our organization on and off the ice and  wish him well in St. Louis."

Oshie, 28, is perhaps best known for his shootout performance for team USA its win over Russia at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
