Former St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer wants the federal government to make opening day of the baseball season a national holiday.
The Hall of Fame shortstop is leading a campaign to collect 100,000 signatures within 30 days under the We the People petitioning program, which would trigger a review by the Obama administration. The effort is being backed by Anheuser-Busch InBev's Budweiser brand.
"Coming from St. Louis, of course being such a baseball town, it's sort of an unofficial holiday, Opening Day, so they thought it would be a good idea for Mr. Smith to just take a trip to Washington," Smith said Tuesday during a telephone interview for ESPN.

Hmmm, we dont know about this one.....to make Opening day a holiday? Thats a bit much.....so if they do that,, will people get the opportunity to get free tickets to a game? What will people do who arent fans?  And what will they call it, Opening Day Day? LOL

Opening Day by the way is  Monday, March 31.

FOOD BITEZ

This Sunday the Academy Awards will be aired which present awards in the film industry, Motion Picture Arts Association. And the food that is associated with watching films, is....popcorn.

Popcorn, also known as popping corn, is a type of corn (maizeZea mays var. everta) that expands from the kernel and puffs up when heated. Popcorn is able to pop because, like amaranth grainsorghumquinoa, and millet, its kernels have a hard moisture-sealed hull and a dense starchyinterior. Pressure builds inside the kernel, and a small explosion (or "pop") is the end result. Some strains of corn are now cultivated specifically as popping corns.
There are various techniques for popping corn. Along with prepackaged popcorn, which is generally intended to be prepared in a microwave oven, there are small home appliances for popping corn. These methods require the use of minimally processed popping corn.
A larger-scale, commercial popcorn machine was invented by Charles Cretors in the late 19th century.
Unpopped popcorn is considered nonperishable and will last indefinitely if stored in ideal conditions.
Depending on how it is prepared and cooked, some consider popcorn to be a health food, while others caution against it for a variety of reasons. Popcorn can also have non-food applications, ranging from holiday decorations to packaging materials.
Popcorn was first cultivated thousands of years ago by the people living in what is now Peru. It is one of the oldest forms of corn; evidence of popcorn from 3600 B.C. was found in New Mexico, while even older evidence was found in Peru. It is estimated that these remnants date from as early as 4700 B.C. Purple popcorn was found in the early 1900s.[1][2

Why was their allegedly a girl fight between Serena Williams and Rihanna over Drake? Why did Matthew Knowles side piece go on Inside Edition complaining that he was behind in child support? Why did Paula Deen compare herself to MIchael Sam?Why is Pharrell getting so much slack for not having black women on his newest album cover? Why did the states of Kansas and Arizona pass laws banning homosexuals to public accommodations?  Why is Ludacris claiming broke regarding his break baby? And why is he trying to get custody of the baby if thats the case?   Why is the TV show "Single Ladies" still on air? (NOTE:VH1 has reportedly cancelled it  this week) And why are some politicians get sticky fingers using campaign funds for their own personal use?
