The White House wouldn’t confirm that the president’s older daughter attended the music festival last Sunday, but a tweeted photo and witnesses indicate the 16-year-old was there for Chance the Rapper’s show.
Lomas said she and her two friends knew something was up when they spotted the security detail and their ear pieces. “All these Secret Service guys were around,” she said. “My friend turned to me and said, ‘I’ve seen the movie, and I know what they are.’ ”Among those tweeting about Malia Obama was Meghan Lomas, 17, from Valparaiso, Ind. She told the Tribune she stood one person away from the first daughter in the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd in Grant Park.
Malia Obama wore a sunflower-patterned outfit with her hair styled in two French-braided pigtails, Lomas said. That description was confirmed by a photo tweeted by another attendee.
“I was in awe of her, and I was just staring at her for a while,” Lomas said. “I freaked out and I waved at her and said, ‘Hi,’ and she waved and said, ‘Hi.’ That was really cool. She seemed really nice and polite and stuff.”
After one festival-goer shouted, “Obama’s daughter is here,” lots of people tried to get a glimpse, Lomas said. “Everyone was trying to get in to see her, but those Secret Service guys just formed a wall,” she said.
One of Lomas’ friends, Justin Starns, 17, also from Valparaiso, said he spoke to Malia Obama.
“She was just saying, yeah, she was here for Chance. She said she likes Chance,” Starns said. “It was just so cool to have her in the crowd so casual like that. I think the Secret Service did a pretty good job.”
Chance the Rapper, like the Obamas, is from Chicago’s South Side.

Chicago natives Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy bid adieu to "The View" on Thursday, and it was an emotional affair for both of them.
The two hosts, whose departures from the ABC talk show
were announced last month, were teary during their final
live taping of the show. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg wasn't present during the episode, and neither mentioned their former co-host as they said their goodbyes live on the air.
McCarthy spoke about how much she learned from "View"
creator Barbara Walters and "dear friend" Shepherd, and
also thanked departing executive producer Bill Geddie,
calling him "one of kind." She then offered her gratitude
towards the show's "hard-working" producers and crew.
"I only took a little time but I definitely enjoyed every second
of 'The View,'" McCarthy said, before introducing a clip of
her best moments from her single season on the show.
"This is a job where you've got a lot of craziness going on,"
Shepherd chimed in, "and Jenny McCarthy always comes in
with a smile and is one of the nicest people to work with in
this business. ... So it's been so wonderful having you here
for the first year."
Despite their emotional farewells, Thursday wasn't the last
time Shepherd and McCarthy will be seen on "The View."
The two will also appeared on Fridays shjow and will be on
Monday's episode, both of which were pre-taped. Monday's
show will be a special tribute to Shepherd and will feature
Goldberg and guest co-host Arsenio Hall.

Speaking of Shepherd she will join a fellow ILLI MO native on the Broadway stage. Robbins Illinois actress Keke Palmer and Shepherd will be in a multi ethnic version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's CInderella. Palmer will be stepping into the title role starting Sept. 9 for eight weeks at the Broadway Theatre. She will become the first African-American to play the part on the Great White Way.
Palmer, 21, is stepping into the sparkly shoes first worn by Tony-nominated Laura Osnes, then put on by "Call Me Maybe" Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen and currently worn by Paige Faure, who launches a national tour in the title role this fall. Shepherd, whose last day on The View was Aug 7 used her swan song to announce what she’s doing next: Going to
Broadway, to star as the wicked Stepmother in the Rodgers and Hammerstein
musical version of “Cinderella.”
Former Chicago Bulls player Scottie Pippen pokes fun at himself in a new Foot Locker TV ad,.The ad co-stars fellow NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley and the Houston Rockets' James Harden. In the ad, Barkley tells Harden all the greats have short term memories and benefited from it. When Harden brings up Barkley's bad games or the 1997 incident in which he threw someone through a plate glass window, Barkley denies having any recollection.
To reinforce his point, Barkley says Pippen, who happens to be at the same party, knows exactly what he's talking about.
"I sure do," Pippen responds from across the room. "And I'm the greatest Chicago Bull of all time."

Former St Louis Rams and Arizona Cards footballer Aeneas Williams was finally inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last Saurday at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
Williams’ opening message to those watching in the stadium or on television:
“Begin with the end in mind and die empty.”
Williams repeated the mantra multiple times. It became the strong theme of his emotional speech. Williams reviewed his life journey as a son, husband, father, Christian and football player. He encouraged others to buy into the belief that the only way to succeed in any endeavor is to give everything that you have — until there is nothing left to give.
Saying that “most people go to the grave full instead of empty,” Williams encouraged the audience to pursue their goals with all of their hearts. That’s straight from his pulpit at the Spirit Church.
“My one life’s assignment is to help people die empty,” Williams said.
Williams was presented by his father, Lawrence, who recited the glorious career of a son who had to walk on at Southern University after failing to receive a single scholarship offer to play college football.
Lawrence Williams closed his presentation by informing the crowd that the unusual name of Aeneas means “worthy of praise” — rightfully concluding that his son had lived up to the name.
Williams thanked Arizona Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill and team president Michael Bidwill. Moving on to the St. Louis portion of his career, Williams thanked late Rams owner Georgia Frontiere, current Rams owner Stan Kroenke, Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff, former Rams head coach Mike Martz, and Tampa Bay head coach Lovie Smith, his defensive coordinator in St. Louis.
Williams was the lone defensive back in the seven-member 2014 Hall of Fame class that included defensive ends Michael Strahan and Claude Humphrey, wide receiver Andre Reed, linebacker Derrick Brooks, offensive tackle Walter Jones, and punter Ray Guy.
Williams was voted to the Pro Bowl seven times as a corner, once as a safety, and was a three-time All-Pro selection and a member of the 1990s NFL All-Decade Team. His 55 career interceptions rank 20th in NFL history, and he recovered 23 fumbles.
Well deserved.
STL SPOTLIGHT
The St Louis Rams had is pre-game opener Friday at The Edward Jones dome losing to the New Orleans Saints 26-24.Quarterback Sam Bradford did not play. Defensive end Michael Sam played, and a couple of quarterback hurries and a nice tackle at the line of scrimmage drew cheers from a half-filled Edward Jones Dome. The season opener will be Sept 7 against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Sixth Annual Mista Couture Charity Style COntst had taken place Sunday at teh St Louis
\Activity Center and the Overall winner wa St Lousi native Ricodemo (PICTURED ON RIGHT with celebrity guests Patrick Faucette of "Tyler Perry's The Haves and The Have Nots" and Gina Cheatham of "Baps"). He also won Popular Vote Winner that was decided by he audience through toy dollars and money raised by contestants. This was a first in the contest's history that a contestant won both titles (2013 winner TC Cantley won Online Poll Winner and Popular Vote). Alabamian Rob Maden won Online Poll Choice receiving over 30,000 votes.
