+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WE WILL TAKE A BYE WEEK (MARCH 16-22) FOR SPRING BREAK

THE TOP ILLI MO STORY THIS WEEK IS

President Barack Obama visited Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday  making up for a promised appearance that was scrapped last year because of crises in Ukraine and the Middle East. It was during his  West Coast Swing which included a private fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee and on Friday traveling to Arizona to visit the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Medical Center, regarding issues involving health care  provisions at the facility.
On Kimmel, he chucked it up at first with some of the hot
button topics including Hilary Clinton's email disclosure.
“I can’t share it with you,” Obama said when Kimmel asked if he has the former secretary of State’s new email address. “I don’t think she’d want you to have it.”
He also  fielded questions
from the talk show host about the possibility of ending Daylight Savings Time and whether he makes late-night runs to the White House kitchen in his underwear.
"Don’t expect either to happen," Obama told him.
Obama submitted to the Kimmel ritual of reading mean tweets about himself. He approved of the suggestion to “fly Obama to some golf course halfway around the world and just leave him there,” but he lectured another on diction: “You know the LOL’s redundant when you add the ‘haha,’” he said.
And as Secret Services agents came under fire for allegedly hitting a White House barrier after drinking, Obama shared his own story of driving a staffer’s car around the White House’s South Lawn, to the alarm of those protecting him. “Do not let him out!” he recalled the agents radioing to each other. After all, the president noted, he can’t drive.
“Is that because you don’t have a birth certificate?” Kimmel asked.
Obama replied, “In Kenya we drive on the other side of the street.”
Then the  conversation got serious as the president addressed this week’s shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri.
“What had been happening in Ferguson was oppressive and objectionable and was worthy of protest,” Obama said.
“But there was no excuse for criminal acts. They need to be
arrested … What we have to make sure of is that the folks
who disregard and disrespect the other side, people who
resort to violence, that they’re marginalized,” he said.
“Obviously we don’t yet know what happened,” said the
president. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the officers
and their families, and thankfully, as you said, they’re going
 to be OK.”
Obama also cited the recent Justice Department report
on Ferguson, which he said found a “whole structure” that
indicated “both racism and just a disregard for what law
 enforcement is supposed to do.”

Rap icon Kanye West made news again this week directly

and indirectly. The big story was the “hacktivist” group

known as Anonymous has taken aim at West in a YouTube

video for the alleged exploitation of his wife, his obsession

with fashion and his attacks on various other artists

.
But West comparing himself to Michelangelo seems to be

what bothers the group the most.

“Our brother, Kanye, exploded straight into his career to

stardom with his ‘Jesus Walks’ music video series a little

over a decade ago and gathered a fan base of Christians to

capitalize on them,” the group explained to the Daily News.

“As you can see, in all his recent activity, he has

disappointed us all and uses negative publicity continuously

to stay relevant on the internet and attempts to build a profit

with that attention.”

“Frankly, we’re tired of it,” it said
.
Although the video comes across as a bit threatening,

Anonymous said it is “not a terrorist group.”
.
“Send Mr. West our regards and let him know we are

watching his behavior,” the group said.

OK so our thing, isnt most of todays relevant celebrities

using their antics and social media to make themselves

relevant  these days ? Isnt that whats going on with

reality TV? We know that Ye is part of that culture but to

single him out with threats of what they are planning to do is a bit much.

In other Ye newz, his  ode to Kim Kardashian has  surfaced online. The heavily auto-tuned love song "Awesome" dropped this week , some two years after he first performed it at the 2013 Met Gala.
Early social media feedback would suggest the recording is anything but awesome with corny lyrics, like  "Cause baby you're awesome, so awesome / you look too good to be at work / you feel too good to ever hurt / I hope you ready for tonight / I'm gonna cook, you'll be dessert." West also calls himself "awesome" a few times.
Meanwhile Ye has been hard at work promoting his upcoming new album, So Help Me God. His recent schedule has included performances at the Grammys  last and the Brit Awards this month,  talk shows in the U.K. and Europe, and he delivered a 20-minute-long speech at England's Oxford University. As of press time, there were no reports  if "Awesome" will make the cut.

Again, heres an example of using social media to keep your name out there. True, everything Ye creates is not classic worthy but we are sure he knows that whatever he produces people and media will react to it.

And in more Ye newz, a video from 2003, that surfaced this week, and  shot at the Dynamic Producer Conference just a few months before his debut LP, The College Dropout, propelled him to immediate stardom and acclaim. On the vid, he performs a song called "18 Years," which became his 2005 hit "Gold Digger" from his Late Registration album. Instead of Jamie Foxx reprising his Ray Charles for this early version, Yeezus swaps in a different Oscar winner to provide the hook: John Legend.

The Chicago filmed hit musical drama Empire's ratings have risen yet again!  With the final numbers in, according to Nielsens,  last Wednesday's episode, "Sins of the Father" scored a 5.8/17 among adults 18-49. Up from the 5.6/17 of earlier this morning, the penultimate episode of Empire’s first season now matches last week’s demo high for the Fox show. And as one category rises for Empire so it seems does another with viewership now at 14.9 million – a new high for the series and a 4% bop up from last week.

And with the two-hour finale approaching next Wednesday exec producer Danny Strong says he has no idea what will happen in Season 2  or even how many episodes it is coming back with.

“I don’t know what we’re doing yet, it hasn’t been decided but I don’t think 22 is the discussion.”  Strong said of the upcoming Season 2 of Empire.

Just over a week after the 12-episode first season started, Fox renewed the 1-hour show for a second season on January 17.When it comes to the content of the next cycle of the series, Strong truly offered no real hints of what was to come.

“We are just starting to talk about Season 2 now,” he said, noting there would be more of the storytelling that has made Empire a success so far.  “I have no clue yet of what we’re doing right now.”

To cash in on the ratings phenomenon, the soundtrack to Season One was released this week and will likely top the Billboard 200 Chart with the only competition coming from pop goddess Madonna's "Rebel Heart." Industry forecasters say Madonna's new album, Rebel Heart, and the soundtrack to Fox TV's Empire are both aiming to shift around 125,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 15. The two sets were released on March 10. Sales figures will be charted and released next Wednesday.

For the second time in two weeks, a co-host is exiting the E! snark show.  Oak Park Illinois native Kathy Griffin announced via Twitter this week that is leaving Fashion Police after just seven episodes.

“I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it’s time to move on,” the outspoken comedian wrote
.
The replacement rumor mill already had coughed up such

names as Khloe Kardashian, NeNe Leakes and Naya Rivera

when Kelly Osbourne exited last month following her outrage

at comments made by fellow FPer Giulana Rancic’s about

the locks Zendaya Coleman was sporting at the Oscars last

 month

“We can confirm that Kathy Griffin is leaving E!’s Fashion

Police,” an E! spokesperson told Deadline today. “We wish

her all the best and are grateful for her time on the show, as

well as the many laughs that she gave us all.

Fashion Police will return, as scheduled, on Monday, March

30 at 9pm with Co-Hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski

and Executive Producer Melissa Rivers. No further

information is available at this time as of a replacement for

 Griffin.

Hmm, isn't Griffin is notorious for being acerbic in her

commentary about celebs and all, and now she's

quitting? After she supposedly lobbied for the job

even before Joan Rivers had passed on last September?

Very interesting. We are sure she will put this

experience in her comedy act.

Chicago native TV legend Marla Gibbs made a return guest

appearance on "Scandal" this week on the  episode‘The

 Testimony of Diego Muñoz’

Playing the role of Rose, the friend to Olivia Pope's across-

the-hall-neighbor, Lois. She finally finds "the black lady"

Olivia for answers as to why her friend has not been found

and later found dead. It was also revealed that Gibbs'

character is  a lesbian who  had been in love with Lois (who

got married, had children and became widowed)

had been in love since they were 16, sixty years ago.

Gibbs' guest appearance is definitely Emmy Award

worthy for Guest Actress in a Drama Series.. We hope

that the academy thinks so as well. It is good to see the

83 year old actress make a comeback on TV and hope

this momentum continues. Maybe she can do a Betty

White venture and host Saturday Night Live. We can see

that happening for sure!

CBS  announced the renewals of some of their shows this week and one was Mike & Molly which stars Plainfield, Ill native Melissa McCarthy. It will enter its sixth season in the fall.
In unrelated McCarthy newz,  she is set to launch  her clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7. The website Melissa McCarthy.com will be open for business in August and apparel will hit department and specialty stores in the U.S., U.K., and Canada at the same time, WWD reported.

Chicago native actor Jerod Haynes made a guest starring role on Empire's episode "Sins Of the Father" playing Reg, the abusive boyfriend to Olivia who was eventually killed

The Philadelphia Eagles announced this week that they have agreed to trade quarterback Nick Foles, a fourth-round draft pick in 2015 and a second-round pick in 2016 to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for quarterback Sam Bradford and the Rams' fifth-round pick in 2015.

The Rams were reportedly fiery in their support of Bradford , with coach Jeff Fisher telling reporters that St. Louis was "counting on him" and "betting on him" to rebound from back-to-back season-ending knee injuries. General manager Les Snead emphasized the front office had no desire to "delete" Bradford from the roster, but Eagles coach Chip Kelly reportedly changed their minds

"This had been in the works for a while," Bradford said. "So it didn't catch me totally by surprise when it happened."

Bradford acknowledged that he "knew this was a possibility probably three, four weeks ago," adding: "I think that (coach) Chip (Kelly) and the Eagles wanted me here, and I'm excited to be here."

The trade also reunites Bradford with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who served as play-caller during Bradford's rookie year with the Rams in 2010.

Based on STL sports radio opinions, many are glad that Bradford left because of his lackluster performance. But our thing is, dont you need backup from a good team in order to be great? We are just saying. But Bradford isnt hurting as in his pockets because he  signed a 6 year contract in 2010  worth $78 million.  Bradford received a $2.88 million roster bonus in 2010 and $17.975 million salary advance in 2011. The contract contained $50 million in guarantees including his base salaries from 2010 through 2013 and an $8.43 million roster bonus which was earned in 2011. So from our math he was to be owed  about $5 or 6 million  in salary minus his guaranteed  signing bonuses.  But we doubt that will occur because The Rams paid is guaranteed figure of $50 million.

ADD: Legendary St Louis jazz singer and club owner Gene Lynn, died last week (March 7) from stomach cancer. He was 78. He also recently had suffered a stroke. Born Leon Campbell, he grew up in Mobile, Ala., before moving to the St. Louis area. He operated several St. Louis jazz clubs bearing his name over a period of several decades. He was monikered "The Black Sinatra."A celebration of Mr. Lynn’s life had taken place Saturday (March 14)  at Greater Grace Church in St Louis Burial  followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery Louis. in St Lucas and Hunt Road.

As we celebrate 10 years of blogging on July 5 we will highlight some of the stories reported and covered over the years each week.

THIS WEEK MARCH 2006
It seems like St. Louis Rams wide receiver Isaac Bruce could be the next casualty in the Rams camp. He is now a free agent after the team released him following failed contract negotiations. The team cut their longest-tenured player Sunday night after talks broke down on a restructured deal. But they remained hopeful Monday of getting an agreement that would bring Bruce back for a 13th season. The 33-year-old Bruce had a salary cap figure of $10 million for next season. He had been due to receive a $1.5 million roster bonus Monday, the first day of the free agency period, as part of an $8.1 million salary. That was the final year of a seven-year, $42 million contract he signed in 2000. Man, I'd say just sail on off and do like Jerry Rice did and reinvent yourself and put on some dance shoes..........................................................................

THIS WEEK MARCH 2009
Last weekend, a story broke out reports that St. Louis based comedian/actor Joe Torry allegedly got into a fight with Chi-town female comedian, Vanessa Fraction. Last week, Fraction claimed that Torry reportedly beat her while they were in Japan for a comedy tour recently. The former Def Comedy Jam Host, Joe Torry is denying all reports and claims by Fraction. Instead he is saying that she is the wild one and that she got in his face and scratched him up.

Other comedians that were supposedly on that same tour and present during the suspected altercation are not speaking out. Although Torry was reportedly held by Military police for a short time while in Japan, no charges were filed and both have since returned to LA. Fraction is claiming that she will reportedly be filing civil charges against Joe Torry in LA court very soon (She was not able to file in Japan).

Why are Michael Jackson’s bodyguards trying to say MJ was a womanizer? And why is the MLK Bridge lane going west of St. Louis so narrow in between the cemented divider and the edge of the bridge? Why did Dan Rather say that Obama couldnt sell watermelons comparing that to Obama trying to get his healthcare bill passed? And why did Howard Stern and Robin Quivers say on their Sirrius radio show that Gabby Sibidie will never have a movie career cuz of her size and she already landed a weekly role in an upcoming Showtime series and has made another movie (and she got Oprah on her side. Hello???)?

THIS WEEK MARCH 2011
A lawsuit in which another rapper accused West of stealing the lyrics for "Stronger" was dismissed last week. Virginia rapper Vince P. (a.k.a. Vince Peters claimed that Kanye West's hit, from 2007's Graduation, was a cribbed version of his own song of the same title. Vince P alleged that in November 2006 he played his song for John Monopoly, who at the time was a member of West's inner circle. West's legal representatives, Pryor Cashman LLP, requested that the case be dismissed, citing that the songs were not similar enough to warrant copyright infringement

THIS WEEK MARCH 2012

Cape Girardeau, Mo. native and controversial radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh made headlines recently when he called Georgetown University law student, Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a "prostitute” on his syndicated radio show after she said at a congressional hearing who testified in favor of President Obama's directive to insurers to pay for birth control. As a result, a plethora of protesters – particularly women – rallied against what they saw as outdated misogyny.
Also, over 30 advertisers who advertise on his show—including Sears, JCPenney, AOL, and Netflix--have pulled their support for Mr. Limbaugh's show.

THIS WEEK MARCH 2014
Grammy Award winning rap superstar Kanye West shared a brief trailer from an upcoming tour film on his official site.

The video reportedly features rapid-fire clips of a variety of scenes from the Yeezus tour, as well as some horses running in snow, soundtracked by clips from the Grammy nominated album. The trailer first aired during his appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers earlier this week.

The film was directed by Hype Williams and will appear in theaters, according to the trailer. Williams directed a number of West's music videos, including "Diamonds From Sierra Leone," "Stronger" and "Gold Digger."

Last week, novelist/screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis confirmed in an interview withNoisey that he is also collaborating with West on a film project. Though it would be totally plausible for 'Ye to be kicking around a few projects, there's a strong possibility this is what he was speaking of.

Ellis is best known for his books American Psycho and Less Than Zero, both of which were adapted into films.
This article first appeared on Billboard.com.

To see the trailer go to:

Now the question is, why did Kanye release it in theaters? Possible Oscar recognition? Hmm, we will see next year.
