OK NOW TO THE BITZ THIS WEEK

The Wednesday night episode of the ABC show "Black-ish" addressed the issue of police brutality with questions, a little humor, and some hope.

The episode titled, "Hope" centers around the Johnson family trying to decide how to explain to their tween twins, Jack and Diane, what police brutality is.
The episode is set with the Johnsons sitting in their living room watching CNN coverage of a case involving police brutality against an unarmed teenager in Los Angeles and waiting for a grand jury indictment. While everyone in the family seems to have a strong opinion on what's happening, Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) can't seem to agree on how to address the issue with their youngest children.
While Rainbow (who goes by the nickname 'Bow), would rather shield the twins and let them continue to "hold on to their innocence and be kids a little while longer," Dre says,"They are not just children, they are black children and they need to know the world they are living in."
While that dilemma is definitely the crux of the episode, the family also embraces different facets of the issue at large. The family's discussion touches on everything from Sandra Bland and Freddie Gray, to the Ta-Nahesi Coates book "Between the World and Me" (which Andre Jr. is reading), to the O.J. Simpson trial.
The episode also makes sure to break up some of the heaviness with humor, like Jack (Miles Brown) thinking that "unarmed" means having no arms or Grandma Ruby (Jenifer Lewis) skipping out on getting Chipotle for the family in favor of food that "Sticks in your stomach" so that the food in the fridge can be used as weapons (because there is a protest after all).
One of the most poignant moments of the episode, however, is when Dre gives a monologue about the Obama inauguration after Bow says she wants her children to still have hope:
"Oh, so you wanna talk about hope, 'Bow? Obama ran on hope. Remember when he got elected? And we felt like maybe, just maybe, we got out of that bad place and made it to a good place," he started off. "...And we saw him, get out of that limo, and walk alongside of it, and wave to that crowd. Tell me you weren't terrified when you saw that. Tell me you weren't worried that someone was gonna snatch that hope away from us like they always do. That is the real world, 'Bow. And our children need to know that that's the world they live in."
Zoey (Yara Shahidi) who seems checked out from the issues for most of the episode eventually makes a statement I think many can relate to, and not just the teenage generation. She admits to being confused and lost: "Everyone I love has been talking about it all night, and I don't know what the answer is."
In the end, the family ends up going to the protest together. "I don't think the world is as broken as you do, Dre, but something's got to change," Bow says. "It's scary, but I think we should go down there."
Ruby stays home with the twins and of course she's prepared.

Show creator Kenya Barris said in an interview for Hollywood reporter about the first read of teh script with th cast. He said "
It's interesting, because the table read was unlike any table read that I've ever been a part of. People were literally laughing and crying at the same time. Afterwards, Laurence [Fishburne] stood up, with tears in his eyes, and Jenifer [Lewis] and they said, "Thank you!" and I was like, "What?" It's not what you're expecting as a comedy writer. And during the week, everyone was ever respectful to the work, because it definitely felt like something different that we were doing. You don't ever want to say television's "important," but I do think the conversation that it subsequently may start could be important."

This episode has quickly become a classic (The no arms joke was classic in itself). We applaud the creator of Blackish Kenya Barris for not holding back with the seriousness of police brutality on people of color. Although it was mainstreamed a bit showing slain leaders such as Gandhi and John and Bobby Kennedy, but it was well done. It reminded us of 1970s Norman Learesque type comedies where topical humor and irreverence were blended to make a point. This epsiode should definitely be nominated for Best Writing in a Comedy and another Best Actor in a Comedy at the Emmy Awards when they are announced later this year. We hear that ABC will rebroadcast it this weekend.

Kanye West was back in the news AGAIN with his latest Twitter rants. One being about the Grammy Awards.
Ye, who did not attend this year's awards and was nominated

for a couple of awards, took aim at the Grammy

Awards in his latest Twitter rant.
On Wednesday night  Ye, who has won 21 Grammy trophies,

claimed that the Grammys have always given the shaft to

black artists. “I know so many cool artists whose hearts have

been broken by the [Grammys’] politics including mine. We

need to fix this. I feel the Grammy awarding system is way

off and completely out of touch.”
Furthermore, West called himself “the most important living

artist. If I’m not at the show next year then there is no show.

Everybody with any form of taste knows… A$AP Rocky’s

LSD video was the best video of the year! You like your

black people a certain way also… We the people need to see

Future at the Grammys. We need to see Young Thug at the

Grammys. Not just me and [Jay Z] in a suit.”
Meanwhile  West will be storming stages in support of his seventh studio album The Life of Pablo, a source close to the rapper/designer tells Billboard. Dates could be revealed within the next month.
Sources have previously told Billboard that West is pondering several release strategies with Def Jam and Universal Music Group for Pablo as well as a possible physical version. The TLOP outing, first reported by EWwould mark his first tour since 2013's Yeezus trek, where Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar was a supporting act.
West also announced on Twitter that another album is due this summer. He recently previewed a new track at Los Angeles' 1OAK club, where he played the braggadocious cut "Saint Pablo (Closest Thing to Einstein)," an offering not on the Tidal version of Pablo.

This Sunday, ABC will air the Academy Awards and all eyez will be on host Chris Rock and what his opening monologue will entail after it was reported he rewrite his diologue after the now infamous hashtag #OSCARSOWHITE caught wind of people of color not being nominated in the major categories.
In a rare interview with The Hollywood Reporter , Rock quipped, "I'm only here because [former Oscars host] Ellen [DeGeneres] didn't want to do the show. I'm only here cause Ellen said no. And I'm sure she said no like eight times."
"She did so good last time she hosted the show. That's kind of the standard," Rock, continued.
Rock cancelled other scheduled interviews leading up to the 88th Academy Awards , after controversy erupted over the lack of diversity in nominees.
The comedian, who previously hosted the awards show in 2005, has also been tight-lipped about his plans for this year.

Well, we are sure the producers of the Oscars got a draft of his jokes but it would be nice if there was some unprepared Black Lives Matter protest on air ala The Streaker back in the 1970s. We are also sure that watercooler chat will be on what Chris Rock said and did on the show.

Meanwhile at the American IdolSeries Finale season, all earz

are on Top 10 American Idol finalist LaPorsha Renae who

got a long standing ovation for her covering Rihanna's

"Diamonds" on the show this week.
La’Porsha’s voice swooped and soared and darted and glided around Rihanna’s simple melody, turning it into something entirely other. She has been touted to win the whole thing according to .Idol winner and coach Kelly Clarkson who stamped on it at the judges table. Hmm, well we will see (Remember Joshua Ledet--we rest our case)  but if you didnt catch her version of the song, we must say its ranked up there as a moment for the show.

City officials in University City, Mo are up in arms (more like up in breasts) about a Social House Bar and Restaurant being moved in to their city.

From reports, the attorney for the owners of Social House II, who are plowing full speed ahead with plans to open on March 14th at 6655 Delmar Boulevard calls it "hypocritical for people to turn their noses up at the thought of a restaurant where the wait staff — female and male — are nude from the waist up except for body paint and pasties in a community like U. City."

U City is the liberal artsy strip on Delmar Boulevard.
As KMOX News earlier reported, last week the University City council pledged to do everything in its power, even amend ordinances, to keep Social House II out.

We dont understand what the big deal is. Would the council be upset of a Hooters was in their city that has well endowed women in very tight  tees with Hooters label plastered on the front of the shirts? We are sure when Social House starts to make money for the city in taxes they won;t complain about that. The controversy has definitely given the business hella publicity for the curious ones to check it out.

Also in March the name plastered on The Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis will be coming off now that The St Louis Rams have moved out and moved to Los Angeles.
The financial services company, Edward Jones said recently it was canceling its naming rights contract for the stadium because the Rams moving to Los Angeles. The contract reportedly  included a clause that allowed the company to cancel the agreement if the Rams no longer played there.
Edward Jones sent termination letters Thursday to the Los Angeles Rams and the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, which runs the stadium.
The Rams have until March 31 to remove lettering and signs down from the building.
The company said in a statement it invested more than $32million for naming rights in 14 years.
Meanwhile Republican state Rep. Robert Ross said he was protecting taxpayers when he spearheaded a move Monday to strip the $12 million Edward Jones Dome payment from next year's budget.
"I don't want to see another publicly funded effort to the tune of half a billion dollars that's going to indebt our kids and grandkids along the way," said Ross, R-Yukon.
Ross is chairman of the House General Administration Appropriations Committee, which voted Monday to remove the bond and maintenance payment for the dome in the 2017 budget year that begins July 1. It now moves to the full House Budget Committee for consideration, where lawmakers could reinstate that funding. Lawmakers must complete the budget by May 6.
The 2022 budget year is the last year for debt payment on the dome, followed by two more years of $2 million maintenance payments.
Its going to be interesting how many politicians will still in office after the city votes regarding who supported the new Riverfront stadium and who didnt. We  also wondered what the money issue would be now in regards to the city bill now that the Dome is also in talks of being torn down altogther and rebuilt to have more room for events like conventions.

Less than a month after suffering a torn aorta, STL radio host John Carney returned to the radio waves at KTRS as host of his afternoon show.
"I've got some taped interviews ready to go," Carney said. "So I won't have to work too hard those first days."
On Jan. 28, Carney collapsed and was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Charles and then transferred to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he underwent surgery the next day

There is a St Louis based couple who has gone to Facebook recently to air out its dirty laundry about its nasty breakup . He, who is part of the media working behind the scenes and having his own podcast, went to Facebook to say that he caught his wife cheating and lying on him and named names of a couple of guys he claim slept with his wife! The wife, who is a former model and worked with her husband on his podcast, went to respond saying that she wanted a divorce last October and that he started it by taking their money from their joint bank account and deposited it in his new account and took off with their son. Well, he eventually took down his post claiming her alleged illicit behavior and her sexual conquests and his recent post was about him trying to go forward as he looks at the spot in hsi bed where his wife used to sleep and hsi son now sleeps. WOW this is too intense to mince! God speed indeed but to post all your drama on social media may have been a mistake especially going through the divorce process. Oh, and their last name is the same as a very popular nationally based comic who is famous for smashing food on stage.

 WORDZ TO THE WHYZ

Why  does U.S. Presidential hopeful Rubio swig on water so much? And why is Ben Carson still in the Presidential race? And why is Trump still in the lead for the Republican candidates? Why did that 18 year old doctor think he could get away with practicing with a fake license? Why did Elton John go off on Janet Jackson's live concerts? Why did people boo Kris Jenner at a recent 1980s concert?  And Why do people mispronounce the state Nevada?
