This Sunday the Academy Awards will be televised and handed out. And the question on everyone's mind is, how many Oscars will LALA Land will pick up?
The musical is up for 14 awards (tied for most nods in a single year along with Ben Hur and Titanic) and its the fave to win Best Picture and a slew of other technical awards.
The other mentionable is the Oscar No So White nominations with a person of color being represented in each of te major categories (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor , Best Actress and Best Supportig ACtress). Thei ris also represnetaion in the Best DOcumentary category where three of the five nominees have an African American director and or its content is African American based ("I Am Not Your Negro", "13th" and "OJ.")
So who will win in the major categories? Below our are predictions of who will win:
THE WINNER WILL BE
LA LA LAND. Moonlight deserves to win but we think LA LA Land will get it.
UPDATE: AS YOU ALL KNOW LALA LAND WAS CALLED BUT MOONLIGHT ACTUALLY WON
=============================
THE WINNER WILL BE
DENZEL WASHINGTON. We think he will get it becasue he wasnt nominated for directing Fences. He already won the Screen Actors Guild Award in this category. Although Casey Affleck won the Golden Globe in this category, we think the momentum of him winning (and his rape allegations) may cause him not to win.
UPDATE. Based on how Denzel was looking in the audience when his name was mentioned in the roll call he knew he wasnt going to win. And when Alleck walked up to accept his award the first thing he mentioned was thanking Denzel for inspiring him.
=============================
THE WINNER WILL BE
ISABELLE HUPPERT WILL WIN. THE FAVE WOULD BE EMMA STONE WHO WON SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD IN THIS CATEGORY, BUT WE THINK THERE WILL BE AN UPSET AN HUPPERT, WHO WON THE GOLDEN GLOBE IN THIS CATEGORY WILL GET IT.
UPDATE: Well, we did mention Emma was the fave and she won but we didnt predict correctly.
=============================
THE WINNER WILL BE
MAHERSHALA ALI. ROBBED FROM WINNING THE GOLDEN GLOBE IN THIS CATEGORY (WHICH WAS GIVEN TO MICHAEL SHANNON), WE THINK OF THE CATEGORIES THAT MOONLIGHT IS IN, THIS IS A SHOO IN FOR THE WIN. HE ALREADY WON THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD SO THE OSCAR IS READY FOR HIS PICK UP.
UPDATE: Ali won. Hands down.
=============================
THE WINNER IS
VIOLA DAVIS. JUST LIKE MO' NIQUE WHO LOCKED THIS AWARD IN 2010 IN HER ROLE IN PRECIOUS, THERE HASNT BEEN A 100 PERCENT SHOO IN TO WIN. THE NOW THREE TIME NOMINEE IS DESERVING OF THIS AWARD.
UPDATE. Another hands down win--and her speech shoud be nominated next year!
=============================
OTHER NOMINEES
Fire at Sea
I Am Not Your Negro
Life, Animated
O.J.: Made in America
13th
THE WINNER WILL BE
13TH DIRECTED BY AVA DUVERNAY. THIS WILL BE THE MAKEUP FOR NOT NOMINATING HER FOR DIRECTING THE MOVIE SELMA.
UPDATE. Guess the Oscar voters saw OJ and voted for it.
=============================
DIRECTING
Arrival
Hacksaw Ridge
La La Land (WINNER FOR DAMIEN CHAZELLE)
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
UPDATE. We predicted Chazelle and he won.
Arrival
Fences
Hidden Figures
Lion
Moonlight (WINNER FOR BARRY JENKINS)
UPDATE. Moonlight won.
=============================
Hell or High Water
La La Land (WINNER FOR DAMIEN CHAZELLE)
The Lobster
Manchester by the Sea
20th Century Women
UPDATE. Manchester by the Sea won.
As far as our predictions of the nine categories, we predicted four so we were at about 51 percent.
