The U.S. and Nigeria have come together for the sake of art. This Sunday, art contestants from both countries will compete in the inaugural DESIGN 6613  GLOBAL SHOWCASE FOR CREATIVE DESIGNERS that will take place May 28  at CWE Bed and Breakfast.

Its creator, St Louisan Jackie Phillips, owner of Unheard Media, spoke on her reason for bringing this event into existence.

I have teamed up with 360 Creative Innovation Hub to give independent designers the opportunity to have their work displayed on an international platform" Phillips said.

The contest--which is called Design 6613 because of the approximate number of miles between the US and Nigeria-- gives independent designers the opportunity to have their work displayed on an international platform. Five US designers will be displayed in Nigeria and five Nigerian designers will be displayed in the US.

                                     Jackie Phillips

Below is the Q &A  with Jackie Phillips

OS:What made you team up with 360 Creative with this project?

JP:The Owner of 360 Creative Innovation Hub (Ebere Achu) is a member of The Army of Entrepreneurs International and we were discussing international marketing, strategic planning, and how to organically grow small businesses. During the conversation we discussed how many talented designers we knew that could possibly do well internationally, but they don't have the push to start the process. That is where Design 6613 was born.

OS: How were the six artists from U.S. and the six from Nigeria chosen to submit?

JP:The submission process was very simple...first come first serve with completing the agreement. We have space for up to 15 designers to enter the contest. We didn't want to limit who would enter.

OS:.What is the importance of this confluence between both countries?

JP:The magnitude of this collaboration is layered. We have created a platform that is unlimited through the power of an introduction and technology. We will be live streaming this event to over 200 countries, so no matter what all parties involved have the chance to drastically change their business.

OS:Will all of the artists from both countries be in attendance?
JP:Only designers from the US will be there in person, everyone else will participate via live stream.

OS:So will this be an annual contest?
JP:Yes we plan to make this an annual event, and to add a new country every year.

OS:What is your overall goal with this project?
JP:The overall goal is layered as well.1.To give designers a platform to expand. 2. To provide unique networking and collaboration platform. 3. To have the community support small businesses. 4. To bring awareness to the need for water in communities across the globe. 5. To show the power of collaboration, empowerment through education, strategic planning, and global marketing.

The Owner of 360 Creative Innovation Hub (Ebere Achu)

Below is the Q &A

OS:What made you team up with Jackie Phillips with this project?

EA:We believe in her effort towards bringing entrepreneurs together to build mutually benefiting relationships between them under her Army of Entrepreneur program. So when she shared the Design 6613 idea with us, we embraced it because we saw the opportunity to grow our brand and expose the designers at the hub to the international audience. This will also afford us the opportunity to learn the global best practice.

OS: How were the six artists from U.S> and the six from Nigeria chosen to submit?
EA:We conducted an online campaign to publicise the opportunity at the hub and we got a number of sign-on, this was vetted by some in-house professional designers and consultants and 5 were selected.

EA:What is the importance of this confluence between both countries?
OS:It affords an opportunity for designers to reach markets outside their places of direct influence and grow their business in terms of sales and brand awareness. It also creates a collaboration across cultures. The series will also create a Learning and Knowledge Sharing Platform for designers from both countries to draw expertise from each other.

EA:.What is your overall goal with this project?
OS:We desire to make 360 Creative Hub a global brand; getting the needed exposure to attract partnerships, training facilitators and grants that will help our designers here improve the quality of their craft through exposure and training, seeing the impact the Hub stands to create, it will help us to get grants. We also hope that the partnership and collaborations will help to break the barriers of entrance for designers using the hub to the US stores.

One of the artists in the showcase  clothing and accessory designer Laura Scarborough was interviewed.

Below is the Q &A

OS:.Where do you reside?
LS:I currently reside in St Louis, Mo.

OS:What high school did you attend?
LS:The high school in which I attended was Kirkwood High School....#PioneerPride

OS:.How did you become inspired to be an artist? Who inspired you?
LS:My vision started well before I created my first piece. My ART is different as I use Chocolate. But for this event I went back to roots of creating one of a kind pieces with blinging out shoes, sunglasses, bags....and putting my own spin on cutting t-shirts... Creating pieces is like my therapy, I can zone out look up and its been 4 hours...

OS:Is this your first art competition?
LS:Yes this is but always I compete with myself in order to improve the previous piece, and grow from it...

OS:What made you want to enter the contest?
LS:Hmmmm.....good question. Everyone knows me as "the strawberry lady" and most people dont even know that I offer more than a treat table for an event... I can offer a whole look from the decor to the attire...My hashtag I like to use is #idomorethanstrawberries...

OS:.What is your niche or type of style of painting?
LS:My niche is being unique & different.... Everyone has their own sense of style or taste..

OS:What do you hope this competition will do for your career?
LS:From this I want to take away a new experience, and let people know that there's more to Lady L Promotions than sweets & treats...we can offer much more...

Fun fact: Laura actually have customers that dont even know her real name because when she gets introduced they call her Lady L.. So when she  answers, "Hi this is Laura.". they ask for Lady L....

Another artist in the showcase is Rosalind Ferrell-Jones (PICTURED TO RIGHT next to gospel singer Babbie Mason) Owner God's Girl Fashion

 Below is the Q &A with Ferrell-Jones\

One of the judges in the showcase is Showna Walker aka Buterflii Soul

Below is the Q &A

OS:What made you team up with Jackie Phillips  with this project?
SW: I am a part of The Army of Entrepreneurs so I'm always willing to help with anything we do. Plus the platform and cause are both great. Jackie has always created unique opportunities and Design 6613 is no different. This event is layered with all types of goodness. From the contestants, to the vendors, to the cause that will benefit the most from it all.

OS:.What is the criteria will use (or have used) in choosing the artists for the contest?
SW:I am looking for originality and a bit of edge. We see a lot of the same, especially with social media. So I look for pieces that stand out.

OS:.What is the importance of this confluence between both countries?
SW:Unity and growth are so important to both communities and countries. To add that a collective of entrepreneurs are working together to provide an international platform for independent designers, support a worthy cause, expose vendors to an international audience, and networking that touches all seven continents...that is empowering and important.
