FROM THE MISTA COUTURE FOUNDER /CREATOR

I am so excited to bring my creation to the City of Angels.  I created the name Mista Couture talking with a fashion forward friend, NYC native fashionista Ola Hawatmeh in a casual conversation in early 2010.  Always trying to create something unique, new or different, I talked to her about my first attempt at a male fashion show contest in 2007. Ola thought the concept was groundbreaking and joined creative minds with yours truly to form Mistacouture Charity Style Contest.

And the rest is her-and-my-story.

Over the years, the contest has seen over 40 male contestants from all across the country to compete for the title thus also helped to give several of them a resume moment for their burgeoning career. Two who have made names for themselves since participating in the contests--1st runner up in 2007 Sesamir Yearby who has been featured on the hit show EMPIRE and STEVE HARVEY's TALK SHOW and the other is
2013 winner  Karras Jordan who is a popular actor on webseries such as STEEL RIVER and RED SKIN.

The very first show, that was initially called TESTOSCOUTURE,  held at Studio Altius in St Louis in 2007,  was humbling because of the challenges of producing a fashion event with various personalities in front and behind the scenes.

One of the most popular  shows occurred  in 2010--the one collborated with Ola-- at the now extinct St Louis restaurant/bar Harry's. The event was  held outside and was quite memorable especially the array of people from all backgrounds and ethnicities coming together all in the name of fashion.

My first venture bringing the  show into a new city  was the summer of 2015 in Atlanta at a venue called Blue Marks Group where the city gave me a dose of  southern hospitality--and to have Miss Juicy  from the Steve Harvey Radio show , who was a judge, was a big bundle of it!

Other celebrities who have participated in the show in the past include Tim Norman from WELCOME TO SWEETIE PIES, PATRICK FAUCETTE from THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS and Brad James from TYLER PERRYS FOR BETTER OR WORSE.

Now, with the 9th annual amongst us, with the tag...."MISTA COUTURE...IN THE HOUSE L.A. STYLE.."I hope that the contest  here in Los Angeles will take the brand to  the next level of fashion sense.

                                                                                           Marcus "Ma'at" Atkins

BROOKLYN JONES

Ms. Jones is a comedian and actress from Brooklyn, NY. A two time winner on BET’s 106th & Park, she initially started out as a rapper performing all over the underground scene. Even in her lyrics you could not deny her comedic edge as many times people would crack up and point out the funny lyrics as she rapped. Growing up in public school she was always the class clown and was told all through life that she should be a comedian.

In 2013, she finally listened to all of the voices in her ear and tried stand up, loved it and has had a passion for comedy ever since. Being sure not to abandon her musical roots, she has incorporated music and hip hop into her comedy by doing parodies such as her Beyonce and Jay Z “Drunk In Love” parody “Chunky Love” which has reached over 580,000 views and counting, and her most recent Iggy Azalea “Fancy” parody entitled “Lazy” which is following in the footsteps of “Chunky Love” with over 38,000 views.

Brooklyn has been honing her comedic skills performing all over the New York City area and headlined her first show at New York Comedy Club in 2013. She recently relocated to California and decided to bring her New York flavor to the West Coast. She is on the right track as she performed at the legendary Comedy Store for Red Grant’s Turnt Up Tuesdays, was named one of California’s Funniest Female Comedians at Ice House Comedy Club and was named “Best of The Fest” at Flappers’ Burbank Comedy Festival.

In 2016 Brooklyn became a recurring guest star on the Oprah Winfrey Network’s “Flex & Shanice” show. Aside from acting in short films and sketches, you can catch her on season 2 of "The Comedy Underground Series" now streaming on UMC (The Urban Movie Channel).
