This is the debut of fitness champion Steven C Lacy's weekly fitness column spotlighting various personalities in the fitness industry, more specifically natural bodybuilding, leading up to the Evolution championships in August.

Name: Vicky McCann
Title: Unknown

Vicky McCann has competed since 1991 as a natural bodybuilder. She has won her pro card in 1995 as a natural bodybuilder and in 2006 she won PNBA Pro Universe. Since then she has always competed as a pro. Experiencing a significant amount of issues with many different bodybuilding organizations, Vicky took it upon herself with other help in creating a new sanction also, making it a non-profit. The new sanction is now called, "DFAC" which is a natural bodybuilding organization ran by athletes for athletes. DFAC has existed for 2 years now and is continuing to grow quickly. DFAC offers invitational, only Word finals for armatures which Vicky says they are trying to put the sport back into bodybuilding. She also thinks Natural bodybuilding has grown but still lacks direction especially in amateur ranks. For future competitors her advice to you would be, "staying focus and be the best you can be.. Your first show is your prep for the next, the biggest competition is against yourself."

ILLI MO BITZ

Chicago native comedian and talk show host Sherri Shepherd  is coming out with a new book. The book, How To Lose Weight And Beat Diabetes, is coming out next month. Also, her hosting duties on the NickMom  Nightout show will be renewed for a second season of the stand-up comedy series NickMom Night Out (23 episodes)  The show is  taped in front of a live studio audience at the Times Square Studios in New York City.

Chesterfield, Mo. native singer Caroline Glaser was eliminated this week on the talent show competition, "The Voice," she was one slot shy of making the Top 12.

Congrats to  St Louis based Jilly's Cupcake Bar & Cafe ho won for the second time the reality show competition Cupcake Wars.  Back in February, Jilly's cupcake chef, Casey Shiller, and its executive chef, Dana Holland, duked it out against other past competitors for a chance at redemption. The theme was the South Beach Food and Wine Festival in Miami, and Jilly's represented the Midwest in what became a battle of the regions. Jilly's cupcakes took home the grand prize of $10,000 and the opportunity to have its own display at the South Beach Food and Wine Festival.

It was announced recently that St Louis based brewery Schlafly beers will be available in New York City for the first time, starting May 13. Schlafly is the granddaddy of craft beer in St. Louis, having just celebrated its 21st anniversary.  Outside of a small distribution footprint in the D.C. area, New York is the first place to get Schlafly beers beyond a 300-mile radius of St. Louis.

This is the debut of fitness champion Steven C Lacy's weekly fitness column spotlighting various personalities in the fitness industry, more specifically natural bodybuilding, leading up to the Evolution championships in August.

Name: Rich Fitter
Title:   Co-Founder
Article by Steven C Lacy

For 12 years Rich Fitter was an athlete, promoter and chairman. From 1999-2006 Rich competed and won pro cards with the NGA and WNBF. When a Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness company went bankrupt, Rich was given the opportunity to take over WNBF. After agreeing, Rich later realized that the organization was not what he had always believed it would be about. No longer being able to compromise his beliefs, he no longer wanted to be a part of the company. Shortly after, Vicky McCann contacted him with similar beliefs about the company, leading them both into establishing their own sanction which is now called, "DFAC". DFAC is a fully tested natural bodybuilding and figured organization. This organization was formed by natural athletes who were tired of competitions being overshadowed by political and business decisions.

This is the second year DFAC has existed and since then have increased the number of shows and affiliates. DFAC offers competitors no restrictions if athletes chose to compete elsewhere. The organization does not charge sanction fees and does not compromise their standards on drug test either. DFAC does not allow crossovers at the events; expect participation in non-sanctioned class such as Men's Athletic or Bikini. Rich Fitter thinks natural bodybuilding has grown in many ways and athletes themselves are stepping up their support of the sport. Some advice he leaves for new competitors in the near future is to “train to your best, but always remember that you compete for fun.
