STL SPOTLIGHT

Last Saturday, St Louis native comedian Lavell Crawford and the rest of the cast of the AMC hit Breaking Bad won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama  at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, Calif.
Lead actor of the show Bryan Cranston accepted the award saying, “Thank you to every actor that has graced our stage…I would like to thank our creator Vince Gilligan. He’s not the God, but he is a God! What a way to go out in style!”
In a post interview with the St Louis American, Crawford said, "“When we won, it was a beautiful thing. It was on TV, and we all got to go up there. It was exciting. I was like, ‘I got a SAG award.’ That’s kind of prestigious for actors... I couldn’t believe it, because a lot of comedian-turned-actors don’t get that type of recognition..
Other cast members receiving the award were: Michael Bowen, Betsy Brandt, Bryan Cranston, Tait Fletcher, Laura Fraser, Anna Gunn, Matthew T. Metzler, RJ Mitte, Dean Norris, Bob Odenkirk, Aaron Paul, Steven Michael Quezada, Kevin Rankin and Patrick Sane.

So take that Mr-Comedian-who-won-Last Comic Standing-over Lavell! What was his name?.....enuff said. LOL
In related Lavell newz, it was reported that he will reprise his role as personal bodyguard Huell in the spinoff to Breaking Bad in Better Call Saul starring Berywn, Illinois native actor Bob Odenkirk who will reprise his role as the crooked lawyer Saul Goodman....It is slated to premiere in November.

Kinloch, Mo native actress Jenifer Lewis is joining forces with award winning choreographer/actress Debbie Allen s for a Sunset Boulevard campy takeoff entitled Ventura Boulevard, according toIndieWire. Written by Mark Alton Brown and Dee LaDuke, Ventura Boulevard will be directed by Allen, executive produced by Lewis and feature a score by Tony winner Marc Shaiman. Ventura Boulevardwill be a darkly comedic tribute to the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard, starring Lewis as a self-deluded queen of 1970’s blaxpoitation movies who uses her guile, money and sex to manipulate a young white scriptwriter into creating her comeback part.
“I am taking things into my own hands by producing Ventura Boulevard," said Lewis. "The Hollywood establishment isn’t going to finance a movie about a middle-aged African-American diva who deceives and beds a young white man.” She last appeared on Broadway in Hairspray as Motormouth Maybelle.
Hmmm. Sounds like this will be a mockumentary like her now classic film, "Jackie's Back". And if that is the case, we are sure it will be hella funny!

ADD: Ms. Lewis is also celebrating  her bday this Saturday!

Last Wednesday, St Louis native rock legend Chuck Berry performed his milestone 200th concert at Blueberry Hill's Duck Room in University City, Mo.....a monthly concert that he does....

According to  a review from Kevin Johnson of the St Louis Post Dispatch, his performance was just OK.

He wrote, ".Berry was light on lyrics and occasional on the guitar, as he is these days. But at 87, Berry should be applauded for getting out of bed, much less duck-walking across a stage, not once but twice as he did Wednesday night. And if he's not quite ready to retire despite some diminished capabilities, that's his business. He’s going to pack the joint regardless."

Johnson went on report that Berry's band included two of his children , Charles on guitar, his daughter Ingrid on vocals and harmonica and played for nearly two hours.

At 87, he is the Jack LaLane of music!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

This week we feature St Louis native poet and music artist Corey Black. He has been on the grind on the spoken word scene since 2007 when he used to spit lyrics with his poet partner in crime Xplicit. But now, he has and is making a name for himself as one of the stalwarts of spoken word in the Midwest.  He has been hosting poetry at The Blank space on Cherokee and a featured poet at various St Louis venues. He also took his talents to the East Coast, specifically the NYC last summer. Black can be seen in the upcoming reality show series Forever 21 that can be seen at

He also sports his own King of Kings gear and music CDs
at

Next month, he will be performing at Speak On it Sundays at Troys Jazz Gallery on Feb 9

SELFIE PIX

This week we feature St Louisan AUTUMN GREEN who took a selfie of herself looking club chic. Looks like she is ready for the night on the town.
MAAT TIMED

Here's one of the highlights of my OUTTOWN travels. Here is YOURS TRULY, Maat Atkins hamming it up with comedian/actor and Chicagoan Rodney Perry in the lobby of the Fabulous Fox Theatre in St Louis after Monique's comedy show  tour during her win of the Oscar in  March 2010. Check out pics and a review from this show at

FOOD BITEZ

This week we feature pizza
Pizza  is an oven-baked, flat, round bread typically topped with a tomato saucecheese and various toppings. The modern pizza was invented in Naples, Italy, and the dish has since become popular in many parts of the world.[1] An establishment that makes and sells pizzas is called a "pizzeria". Many varieties of pizza exist worldwide, along with several dish variants based upon pizza. Pizza is cooked in various types of ovens, and a diverse variety of ingredients and toppings are utilized.
\

This week we feature St Louis based model Sydney Paige. This McCluer North alum is seen
here in triple panel wearing a purple furry dress with black belt and bag and heels. It is accentuated by her simple swept back hair in a ball. She is definitely red carpet ready in this ensem.

DISHN
Which national  R&B singer was in St Louis recently attending a very posh and private party held at a mansion
in the Chesterfield/Wildwood, Mo area.

We hear this party had a lot of mingling with the ratio of women to men 4 to 1.

Who was the singer?

HINT 1. The singer is a male

HINT 2. The singer was married to a very popular actress

HINT 3.His first name starts with a vowel.

Who is he?

Why is Justin Bieber  getting into trouble these days?  Why did that youngster call Kim Kardashian a n-word lover? Why is American Idol trying too hard to make us believe the new judges like each other? Why did Lebron James tweet out a pic of Chris Boesh and his daughter grabbing his private area? Why did Bey once crop out Kelly Rowland in a pic that they had taken with the late singer Aaliyah? Why did Madonna call her son the n-word when tweeting apic of him boxing? Why was Red Hot Chilli Peppers added to the entertainment with Bruno Mars  for th4 Superbowl ? Why was Jennifer Hudson able to keep her cell phone during the First Lady's  no cell phone policy party last weekend? And why is there such a debate over marijuana being legal ?

If you have or someone you know who has a selfie pic, an artist that you would like to spotlight or an event you want promoted send a comment in the comment box below or email snaphoney2011@gmail.com
