ILLI MO SPOTLIGHT

(CBS SPORTS) Shortly after Michael Sam was drafted by the Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft -- becoming the first openly-gay player on an NFL team -- we learned the former SEC Defensive Player of the Year would be honored at the ESPYs with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
On Wednesday night Sam accepted that award and gave an emotional speech.
"This year I had a lot of experience being a part of something bigger than myself," Sam said. "At times I felt like I was part of a massive storm."
Sam proceeded to quote Ashe in "three simple sentences."
"Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can," Sam said, pausing while he became emotional. "Those are words to live by, whether you're black or white, young or old, straight or gay."
Sam then told a touching story about a friend's sister who considered suicide over telling her family she was gay.
"When we spoke she told me she would never consider hurting herself again and that somehow my example helped her," Sam said fighting back tears. "It's amazing to think that by doing just what we can, we can all touch, change and even save lives."

Sam also provided an inspirational message to young people listening and watching.
"To anyone out there, especially young people feeling like they don't fit in and will never be accepted," Sam said. "Know this: great things can happen when you have the courage to be yourself."

Congrats Michael...and we are rooting for you to have a

great upcoming season!

Hollywood's royal couple, BRANJELINA will share the screen again.

Springfield Mo native Brad Pitt and his wife Angelina Jolie will star in in By the Sea, a drama that Jolie wrote and will direct. The superstar couple will also co-produce the project.
Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to By the Sea, it announced on Friday. A media release calls it an "intimate, character-driven drama."
The last time the couple shared the screen was the 2005 action hit Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where they famously met on set.

Rapper French Montana told Complex in a recent interview, that he and Kanye West share a great bond, and it's not just the Kardashian women in their lives.
"Kanye's overseeing the production of my entire album," said Montana, 29, who's currently working on the follow-up to his debut record, Excuse My French. "I just wanna give my fans what they know me for. I don't want to change with what people are following."

Ye is reportedly helping Khloe Kardashian's boyfriend, Montana, out with his "producing and rapping" skills. "We did like, four songs." (Later, Montana updated MTV on their work together and said the two had collaborated on five tracks. Montana also previewed one of his new tracks, "Bang," featuring the Yeezus rapper last Wednesday, July 9.)

Montana's ties with West, actually predate his relationship with Khloe, whom he started dating back in April. "Kanye was actually going to sign me," Montana said. "Since around that time, we both had great chemistry and a great relationship."

Hmm, we wonder if any of Montana songs will have any Khloe references? Just sayin.
In other Ye newz, ttheres a vido floating around social media of  the rapper a age 19 spitting. To see it go to http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/see-19-year-old-kanye-west-rap-at-new-york-record-store-20140717

And in other Ye newz, Ye was recently nominated for an MTV Music Video award for Hip Hop Video
for the video "Black Skinheads"

Speaking of MTV Music Awards, St Joseph, Mo native rapper Eminem was nominated for five awards. Two for the video "Monster" (Male Video, Best Collaboration with Rihanna,
and Best Direction) and three for "Rap God" (Best Editing, Art Direction and Visual Effects)

Awards will be handed out Aug 24 and will air on MTV.

Emmy Award winning and Chicago native comedian Sherri Shepherd is more upbeat than you'd think amid the View drama. The soon-to-be former co-host enthusiastically talked about her future to Us Weekly while attending Wendy Williams' 50th birthday bash in NYC on Thursday, July 17.
"Excitement is going through my mind because the sky is the limit with possibilities. You can't grow without change," the 47-year-old told Us at OUT Hotel. "You will stay the same and it will not be good. I'm all about running towards things that you fear. I'm so grateful that Barbara Walters gave me the opportunity for seven years and they've prepared me for whatever comes."
Shepherd , along with Chicago native Jenny McCarthy, announced her departure from the ABC daytime talk show late last month. Shepherd cried speaking of her exit during its July 7 episode, but seems to be in better spirits now. "I'm very, very excited. My last day is August 7th and I'm giddy," she added. "I've gotten Barbara Walters' blessing and I am so joyful. It is time to leave and time to fly and you can't grow without change so I am not supposed to be at The View next year. I am just happy."
McCarthy, too, has begun thinking of her future. The former Playboy model, 41, announced earlier this week that she will now be hosting a weekly, one-hour show on Sirium XM titled Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy. She'll also be keeping busy planning her wedding with fiance Donnie Wahlberg -- which Shepherd is invited to.
"Yes, I'm going to be there! I'm so excited. I'm picking out a dress," Shepherd told Us. "I'm gonna be there for the entire festivities. Donnie's got like nine damn brothers and I'm single so there's gotta be a Wahlberg in there [for me]." (As previously reported, Shepherd filed for divorce from husbandLamar Sally last month.)
Well good for the both of them. We will be watching Aug 7 on their last day for sure!

According to stltoday.com, St. Louis' Scott Bakula is the newest member of the "NCIS" family, but he has a familiar mentor. Mark Harmon, who stars as Gibbs in the original, is an executive producer on spinoff "NCIS: New Orleans."

That the new series exists at all is due to Harmon, executive producer Gary Glasberg told TV critics meeting in Los Angeles.
Bakula and his team were introduced last season in an "NCIS" episode. The new series will be shot entirely on location In New Orleans. "
Preparation for the first episode is under way, and production starts Wednesday, July 23.

Robbins, Ill naive actress/singer and now talk show host Keke Palmer made waves this week on her talk show when she interviewed  Chris Brown's current girlfriend, Karrueche Tran , possibly generated even more media attention as it forced her to confront some turmoil from disgruntled Rihanna fans.

Palmer -- who's a friend of Rihanna -- maintains she doesn't regret her choice.
"I want to give my generation everything they're asking for," she told host HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd in an interview on Wednesday, July 16. "I feel like this was a specific thing that a lot of people were curious about. They were curious to hear what Karrueche had to say."

"You kinda know how Rihanna feels 'cause she kinda tweets here and there," Palmer continued. "You kinda know how Chris Brown feels, 'cause he'll just tell you -- he'll put a video to it! -- but Karrueche has never spoken out, and so I was really glad she trusted us at 'Just Keke' to kinda give us the word on how she feels."
Brown's relationship with Tran comes on the heels of a very public relationship with Rihanna, which continued off-and-on even as he was found guilty of assaulting her. Rihanna's loyal fan base is known for its hostility towards Brown, which has extendedto his current girlfriend. Fans were predictably unhappy that Tran was being offered a forum to speak.

"[There was] lots of drama about me having her on," Palmer recalled. "Because people know I'm a huge Rihanna fan and so their initial thing is, 'Why would you have Karrueche on if you're a huge Rihanna fan?' And the thing is, it's not about me ... it's about me keeping a promise to you guys, which is to always give you the real ... this was news to my generation and I wanted to make sure I gave it to them."
Well, as they say controversy breeds success, and in this case -BUZZ.  Her show is new and needs
people talking so we think it was great publicity for the show.

arms about the actor playing Bobby Brown in the Whitney flick doesnt resemble the
real singer?

Why is rapper Murda Mook coming for Eminem for a rap battle? Why was Drake chosen to host
the ESPYS? Why was Pam Oliver really fired? Why did Tim McGraw slap that lady while in concert?
Why did TV reporter Sean Bergin make those comments on air about  black guys and the anti-cop mentality? Why didnt Lady Gaga get a MTV Video nomination his year? And why are their so many World star type videos posted on Facebook?
