THE TOP ILLI-MO STORY THIS WEEK IS:

Former Chicagoan Lester Holt is continuing to make NBC Nightly News
a ratings winner ever since he replaced Brian Williams last week as permanent anchor after the network investigation of Williams fabricating stories including his visit to Iraq. Holt has also made history as the first African American to solo anchor a nightly newscast on broadcast TV (Bernard Shaw was the first on cable TV at CNN).

Mr. Holt  had been serving as “Nightly News” anchor on a temporary basis since February, when Brian Williams was suspended for fabricating a story about his experience during a Wehelicopter attack in Iraq.

“This was a very awkward situation I was put in,” Mr. Holt said in his office at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. “I was basically — under what was difficult circumstances — handed a successful broadcast. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t let anybody down.”
Now we wonder if NBC will up his salary to match Williams' 10 milli a year
now that ratings have risen. He reportedly gets 5 milli.

And speaking of hosting duties, NBC's Today announced this week that. Kansas City, Mo native/St Louis bred actress Ellie Kemper  (PICTURED with Today weatherman Al Roker) is joining the Today Show anchors on a temporary basis for a month as various members of the team go on vacation. The former co-star of "The Office" can currently be seen on the Netflix-com Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

The first day of shooting on Season 2 of Fox’s blockbuster
hip-hop family drama Empire  began this week in Chicago.
One of the scene shot was a jail scene with Chicago native
actor Terrence Howard  (PICTURED with Chris Rock and
Empire co-creator Lee Daniels) playing record label mogul
Luscious and comedian Chris Rock guest starring  as a jail
mate. The season returns Sept 23.

We were remiss to report of the win of a musical with St
Louis ties  that won big at this year's Tony Awards a couple
weeks ago. Nominated for 12 Tonies, the musical  “Fun Home,” took home the Tony Award for best musical. It also picked up four more awards  for best actor, best book, best score and best director.
The St Louis ties are the show’s lead producers that won for Best Musical. They are  are St. Louis-based Fox Theatricals whose  parent company is Fox Associates. In that company are  three St. Louis women: Mary Strauss, Lisa Baudendistel-Suntrup and her sister, Julie Baudendistel-Noonan.
Other “Fun Home” producers with strong St. Louis ties are Mike Isaacson, artistic director and executive producer of the Muny as well as executive producer at Fox Theatricals; Fox Theatricals president Kristin Caskey, who heads the theater on Grand Boulevard; Jack Lane, executive producer of Stages St. Louis; and Terry Schnuck, a veteran producer on and off-Broadway.
The show, based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel memoir about growing up with a closeted dad in a funeral home and the first musical to have a lesbian as its main character.

Gs
We were also remiss of the documentary that aired on ESPN this month with St. Louis Rams defensive ends Chris Long (RIGHT) and William Hayes who  went undercover to experience life among the homeless, bringing awareness to an issue.
The NFL players went on a unique journey documented in aSportsCenter special titled "Life On the Streets."
We were supposed to stay in a shelter after our first night on the streets before our cover was blown. [...] We were apprehensive about allowing those cameras along with us in our experience. ESPN hit us up a few days before.
BELOW IS LONG's COMMENTS ABOUT THE ADVENTURE:
I think raisi ng awareness is Long spoke extensively on Twitter about how what he saw impacted his view of homelessness
It was important on a lot of levels but the thing I took away was the human element of the problem. Awareness can't fix everything, and just 2 days and a night on the street didn't give us any answers. It did however give us perspective.
I hope that I can give more of my time, energy and resources to the cause in the future. William has been a real champ the last few years. [...] I do regret not being able to stay out longer. A stay in one of St. Louis' shelters would have been very valuable. We were found out day 2.
The report by Merrill includes the footage and indicates the idea to don a homeless disguise was hatched on the Rams' team bus. Hayes initially recommended it to Long, who decided to join him.
Hayes and Long hit the streets March 22, with makeup and clothing to mask their identities. They each had just $4 and resorted to panhandling as a result.

Why is their uproar now about taking down the Confederate flag after the Charleston, SC Nine were killed? Why is  a former star of  the Dukes of Hazzard  who is now a politician flaunting supporting the Confederate flag? Why did POTUS get so much flack for saying the N word when talking about racism?  Why did P Diddy  try and use a cowbell to fight the coach of his son's football team? Why did it take Taylor Swift's rant for Apple Music stream company to pay artists during the three month trial period of their music being streamed on there? Why did CNBC take this long to take Sarah Palin off the air?  And why does it seem as though she leaked her daughter being preggo for publicity? Why does Janet always whispers in her recordings post-janet. 1993 album? Why are Ariana Grande fans going crazy that she got rid of her signature ponytail? Why did Rick Ross lock his groundskeeper at his mansion up in the guest house and pistol whipped him? And why does homeless people always  use a piece of  raggedy cardboard and write in marker when they are asking for assistance?
