President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama paid tribute to Memphis soul this week in the latest music series  "In Performance at the White House," celebrating the Tennessee city that brought blacks and whites together through music despite segregation and racism in the 1960s.

According to the The Associated Press, Obama noted how black and whites blended soul, gospel and R&B to "bridge those divides, to create a little harmony with harmony."
The president mentioned Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper for their role in forming one of Memphis' first integrated bands. "They weren't allowed to go to school together. They weren't always allowed to travel or eat together," said Obama. "But no one could stop them from playing music together."
"The sound of Soulsville, U.S.A., a music that, at its core, is about the pain of being alone, the power of human connection and the importance of treating each other right," he continued. "After all, this is the music that asked us to try a little tenderness. It's the music that put 'Mr. Big Stuff' in his place. And it's the music that challenged us to accept new ways of thinking with four timeless words: 'Can you dig it?'"
Performers included Sam Moore of the duo Sam and Dave and American Idol Season 11 finalist Joshua Ledet taking on "Soul Man," and Justin Timberlake and Cropper joining together for a rendition of Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay." Alabama Shakes, Ben Harper, Cyndi Lauper, Charlie Musselwhite, Chicagoan Mavis Staples, Queen Latifah and William Bell also performed, with Latifah serving as host and Jones as bandleader.

Michelle Obama also hosted a special workshop before the tribute show for students from 16 schools and organizations in Virginia, California, Memphis, New York City, Maryland, Florida and Washington D.C.

Oscar nominated and Emmy Award winning actress and Plainfield, Ill native Melissa McCarthy
made her second turn as host of Saturday Night LIve last

Saturday.  In the ratings  McCarthy averaged a 4.8/12 in

metered-market households, and a 2.7/12 in 18-49 in the 25

markets with Local People Meters. That was way down from

the 5.9/15 and 3.7/18 for the Timberlake-hosted show last

month but on par with the one before that, hosted by Kevin

Hart (4.8/12, 2.8/13) and about average for the season.

During her stint this go round McCarthy pulled off stellar physical comedy in hosting .She had a string of funny sketches one being a nod to the Rutgers scandal, she was a bullying basketball coach, a fair contestant who promoted her honey-baked ham by dancing with men dressed as pigs, a shameless loan applicant who wanted money to eat pizza, a bad singer on The Voice, a socially inept date who drank from a punch bowl and she spoofed Vanna White by playing a daft letter-turner on a game show.

She fell in her monologue, by design, because of bad shoes. But she soared once again as host because her brand of physical comedy never goes out of style.

Grammy Award winning rap superstar and Chicago bred
rapper Kanye West is facing a  multimillion-dollar lawsuit
…for infringement on his 2005 smash hit, Gold Digger! The
alleged infringement stems from a sample of  David Pryor's
"get down" chant from his 1974 track with Thunder &
LightningBumpin' Bus Stop.

However, the musician was incredibly sick back in 2005, and
passed away in 2006, never realizing where his voice had
ended up according to the late artist' attorney

After David Pryor died,  his daughter Trena and son
Lorenzo from court documents discovered Pryor's song in
late 2010, but they could not secure rights to the song until
Pryor's estate was probated and a final determination of
heirs was made in 2011.

In 2012, the family obtained all of the necessary information
required to file this substantial lawsuit against Kanye and
others putting all record companies on notice that they will
be sued if they continue to steal and exploit David Pryor's
vocal performance in 'Bumpin' Bus Stop' without the family's
permission."

They are demanding millions in damages from Kanye, Roc-

A-Fella Records, UMG's Island Def Jam, and have

requested an injunction to prevent any of his unauthorized
work to be utilized.

In unrelated Ye news, singer Ray-J has released a new single aimed at Kim Kardashian and her baby daddy Kanye West about the fact that he was with the pregnant Kardashian before Ye in the song,   "I Hit It First" and it has Kanye steaming, according to sources close to the rapper.
"Kanye don't condone broke a--, jealous [guys] who be trying to bite off he and Kim's fame just to stay, wait, just to become relevant," an unnamed source told HollywoodLife.com.
The source said that Kanye and Kim K both will be taking the high road on this issue and we shouldn't expect KimYe to comment publicly on the single.

Chicago native actor Craig Robinson  will be quite busy after

his sitcom, "The Office" ends in May.

He will soon be seen in his first starring role in the movie in

Peeples with Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier  and

produced by Tyler Perry'. It opens in theaters Friday, May

10.

Robinson is also in the process of returning to television in a new comedy pilot called Mr. Robinson, and it’s about him as  a music teacher. A music teacher.  He also will co-star in the film, This is the End with stars Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg that is set to be in theaters.June 12

St Louis bred rap mogul Nelly is  back on the charts with a remix to country duo Florida Georgia Line's country hit, "Cruise." The song has been reissued and has debuted on this week's Billboard H Hot 100 at No. 8. At the end of Nelly's new music video for "Hey Porsche", a remix to "Cruise" plays, featuring Nelly. The song was released to iTunes on April 2, 2013 and is scheduled to impact pop radio on April 16th, 2013.

This past Monday was St Louis Cardinals first home game and Opening Day at Busch Stadium. The ceremonies prior to their game with Cincinnati was in dedication to the late Cards great Stan Musial who died in January.
From reports, pre-game ceremonies were mostly a tribute to The Man. Musial's four children unveiled a marker on the left field wall honoring their father — his No. 6 inside a red circle with his signature across it. Fans stood, many with hats over their hearts, during a video tribute.
Even the national anthem paid homage to Musial's passion, since it was performed by harmonica players with the Gateway Harmonica Club, of which Musial was an honorary member.
Activities also included two pep rallies outside the stadium. Inside, the Budweiser Clydesdales circled the warning track followed by the parade of Hall of Famers in red Mustangs and wearing red blazers — Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Red Schoendienst, Ozzie Smith, Bruce Sutter and Whitey Herzog.
Ceremonial first pitches were thrown by two members of the 2006 championship team, Jason Isringhausen and Jim Edmonds.
The announced attendance of 47,345 was also a new

regular season record for Busch Stadium III.

Unfortunately, the Cards fell short of winning against The Cincinnati Reds 13-4.

From reports, the agreement that lured the Rams from Los Angeles to St. Louis in 1995 includes a provision that guarantees the Rams a first-tier NFL stadium by 2015.  The procedure for getting there includes an arbitration process, which the Rams won earlier this year.
There’s another term of the agreement that now will benefit the Rams.  The party that prevails in the arbitration is entitled to reimbursement for attorneys’ fees and litigation expenses.
According to the St. Louis Business Journal, the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission owes the Rams $2.01 million, with $1.85 million coming from attorneys fees and $159,150 attributed to costs.
The Rams had asked for $3.42 million, and the CVC had argued that the expenses should not exceed $787,398.
Typically, parties to litigation bear their own legal expenses.  In this case, with the parties expressly agreeing that the loser in arbitration will pay the winner’s fees, the Rams have won on both counts.
The bigger victory, of course, comes from the fact that, if the CVC doesn’t provide the upgrades to the Edward Jones Dome that the arbitrators have determined to be appropriate and necessary, the Rams will be able to leave the venue after the 2014 season.

Congrats are in store for Washington University professor Gerald Early who received  a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame today, Thursday.
news release from Washington University says a ceremony marking Early’s induction will be on the northeast corner of Delmar and Skinker boulevards, 6197 Delmar Boulevard,
A native of Philadelphia, Early has been on the Washington University faculty since 1982.

This week we feature STL socialite Miss Meghan who can be seen on the YOUTUBE series Girlfriends STL. Here she is on set at The Coliseum wearing a sleek black party dress and brown spotted wool jacket with black pumps. She was looking uber sexy and stylish!

Why did LL Cool J record the song, "Accidental Racist" with Brad Paisley?"  Why are most of these court shows nothing but   showcasing men as deadbeats? Why did Jay Z and Beyonce take a trip to Cuba? Why does USher cock his leg up while sitting as a judge on The Voice?  Why are Kate Upton and Diddy denying that they are dating?  And why is Lazaro still a contestant on Idol?

St Peters, Mo. resident Lucy is the latest in many who has gone viral.  When Lucy’s father pulled out his video camera to record her hysterical attempt to walk the family dog, he never thought it would be seen around the world.
But that’s just what happened.  After a family stroll, Lucy’s dad decided to put the video on his Facebook page. And after a good response, he thought, why not post it to YouTube?
Well, since then, YouTube viewers have enjoyed letting this little girl’s laugh lighten their mood this week.
The video has already gotten nearly 2 million YouTube views and has been showed on news programs across the U.S. as well as in Belgium and London.

The video  is of a little girl walking her dog — and then intentionally dropping the leash and laughing maniacally —
"She kept asking for the leash, just so she could drop it and watch my dog run with it dragging behind him," her father wrote on YouTube.
