THE TOP ILLI-MO STORY THIS WEEK IS:
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Chicago Bulls in Game 6 Semifinals, 94-73 on Thursday night at the United Center in Chicago. The Cavs won the Series 4-2-and clinched their Eastern Conference semifinal series in six games. Lebron james had 15 points and Derrick Rose finished with 14 points.
After the game, Bulls head coach Tim Thibodeau spoke about Game 6.
Two things seemed to get Cleveland going: Mirotic's flagrant foul and Chicago's inability to score to start the third quarter.
Thibodeau: The second quarter was problematic. It's hard to make it up when we get down 14. I thought the defense to start the third was vey good. And then we couldn't score. Give them credit. They played very well. LeBron was unbelievable. He beat us with the pass. Thomposon was a monster on the boards. Congrats to their organization on winning. I'm proud of our guys. We came up short.
Talk about the up and down season.
Thibodeau: We had a lot of injuries. I liked the fight in our guys. It was an u and down year. But hearer was no quit in them. They hung tough. Found a way to win games. We wanted to give our bet shot here. And it didn't work out for us.
What did you see in the second half from Derek Rose?
Thibodeau: It was a long year. The good thing is, I think he's regained his confidence. He had the surgery the second half of the season. I thought he played very aggressively. You gotta remember he hasn't played in three postseasons. Playing in the last five games of the regular season, and getting this experience I think is really good for him. I think he'll have a great year next year. I think he feels really good about where he is. He'd tell you he wants to play better. But he's got a lot of confidence right now in where he is. That was a positive. I thought it was unfortunate Pau got hurt. He had a a terrific season for us. Jimmy you can't say enough about. He was fantastic throughout. He's grown a lot.
Well rumor has it that the Bulls coach may be fired and the New Orleans Pelicans may scoop him up. As far as Derrick, well, at least he was able to play without any serious re-injuries.
Speaking of the Bulls games, one of its spectators was rap superstar Kanye West who attended Game 4 of the NBA playoff series at United Center in Chicago.
West, who grew up in Chicago, worked the crowd before and during the game.
Ye hyped the crowd with pregame introductions and by performing “All Day” during a timeout.
Did you all see the Vine video of Ye sitting with former Bulls player Scottie Pippen having a convo and Ye laughed and when he saw the cam on him he got straight faced? Hilarious.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs between the five time finalists Chicago Blackhawks and the Anaheim Ducks will start Sunday, May 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Blackhawks will begin play at United Center in Chicago in Game 3 on May 21.
Below is the game schedule:
On Monday, Fox announced that "Empire," that starts filming Season 2 in Chicago in July, would be expanding to two parts next season. The first part will take place in the fall leading up to a big cliffhanger before taking a hiatus and returning in the spring.
The series will also add episodes, going from 12 to 18.
Both parts of the hit musical drama's second season will take place during its normal time slot of Wednesday at 9 p.m.
"We'd be crazy to move it," said Fox Television co-chairman Gary Newman about a potential time change for the series.
Along with expansion, Fox also announced that comedian Chris Rock and musicians Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz will guest star next season.
Well all Scandal fans can breathe a sigh of relief for the rumor was Empire was moving to Thursday nights at 9pm opposite Scandal.....but our question is, will Empire continue to rise in ratings after its phenom freshman season? Its likely. Lets hope The Primetime Emmys recognizes them as well, especially Taraji P Henson as Cookie for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
According to a recent article in Time Magazine, Spike Lee sought on Thursday to squash some rumors that have been swirling about his upcoming film on the violence that plagues parts of Chicago.
“A lot of things have been said about the film by people who know nothing about the film,” the famed director said during a news conference at St. Sabina Catholic Church. “We felt it was appropriate that we say what the narrative is, the filmmakers, the people who are doing this. Not the people that’s judging from afar.”
The film, which is reportedly titled “Chiraq”—though Lee referred to this as the “so-called-title”—has drawn the ire of city officials because it compares the city’s violence to the war zones of Iraq. Mayor Rahm Emanuel reportedly expressed his disdain for the title to Lee himself. According to NBC Chicago, Alderman Will Burns also called for the city council to cut Lee’s tax break unless he changes the film’s title. The moniker Chiraq was popularized by Chicago rappers Chief Keef and later used by stars like Kanye West, who was also raised in the Windy City.
“Everything I’ve done has led up to this film,” Lee said, adding a simple overall message: Don’t prejudge the film, whatever it may depict or be titled.
“I love Chicago, you know,” he said. “Wait until the movie comes out. You don’t like it, you don’t like, but wait, see it first.”
No details about the film, which may be a musical comedybased off of the Greek comedy “Lysistrata” but will not feature Kanye, were disclosed Thursday, but Lee reiterated the importance of it given a recent spate of shootings across the Chicago area, notably in the Englewood area.
“This is not a joke, this is not a game,” he said, “this is real life and death, and that’s the way we are going to approach this.”
And speaking of Kanye(again), looks like Common is going to be the most popular rapper starring in Spike Lee’s new film after all. In a statement given to EW, Kanye West’s rep states that, “Contrary to published reports, Kanye West will not be starring in Chiraq,” while adding that he might have some involvement on the film’s soundtrack, “schedule permitting.”As for the actors they will be , John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Piven , and Jennifer Hudson have signed on
Well, controversy and a Spike film isnt anything new, so this is great publicity for him. Its been a minute since any of his films have made such a buzz since 1992's Malcolm regarding problems with funding based on the material. And the whole Greek comedy twist should be interesting indeed.
Two St Louisans will join the cast of the reality TV show “Real Housewives of Orange County” . They are Meghan King Edmonds, who is the wife of former St. Louis Cardinals outfield Jim Edmonds, and her husband. The show’s 10th season will premiere June 8 on the Bravo network. Recent newlyweds, The Edmondses split their time between St. Louis and Orange County, California.
According to stltodaycom, KMOV TV's Brittany
Nobe Joens, who recently hosted The Rebirth Fashion Show at Crowne Plaza in downtown St Louis (SEE PICS AThttp://outstagin.blogspot.com/2015/05/out-200-jon-erickque-mood-swings-ent.html ) won an award recently being named the 2015 Emerging Journalist of the Year by the National Association of
Black Journalists.
The award recognizes a young
journalist who displays a commitment to providing balanced coverage of the
black community and society at large. Noble-Jones, who is a St Lousian, covered Ferguson in 2014 and
established a presence on social media during the unrest. She came to KMOV in
2013, after working in Michigan, Arkansas and Tennessee.
According to stltoday, com, KSDK TV weathercaster Chester
lampkin is leaving the station and heading to New Zealand. In June,
Lampkin will start as a meteorologist for MetService of New Zealand, which he described as being akin to
the National Weather Service for that nation. Lampkin said he may make a few more
appearances on KSDK, "but I am basically done."
Lampkin is also a St Louisan and has worked in Colorado, Texas and Jefferson City before landing at
KSDK in 2012.

THIS WEEK 2006
Last weekend was quite festive for me. LAst Friday, I attended theTom Joyner Skyshow sponsored by Radio One's Foxy 95.5. that was held at the Roberts Orpheum Theatre downtown St.Louis. I got up about 3:30 that morning to make it over there. You know that you gotta get up before the birds start chirping in order to get a seat at this free event.
I got there about 4:30 (I told my AG Edwards gig that I woud be running late (WINK WINK) in order to get to this event) and saw that it was a line of hundreds waiting in the chilly wee hours of teh morning to get a seat at the Skyshow.Ive been to a couple of other times a few years ago when I was a reporter at the St.Louis Americanand actually one of the musical acts,THE Whispers, was repeat of one of the shows I attended when I was at the American at the Pageant about 2002 or 2003.
Well, I got a parking space nearby in one of the parking lot areas about two blocks down from the Pageant on Pine and proceeded to walk toward the crowd. When I got there, I talked with a brother who was there ( I cant recall his name right now-a brotha was still fighting off not getting sleep). So we were shooting the breeze about the Skyshow and he told me that it was word that singer R.Kelly was in town to visit singer Ron "Mr Biggs"Isley who was in teh hospital in the Lou and that he may make a surprise visit to the Skyshow. Well, you know how it goes in the Lou, you gotta show us if it is real before we belive it (He never did show up to the SKyshow).

THIS WEEK 2007
On Saturday. FREE TIME LLC was putting on a Mayweather/DelA Hoya fight party at Bar Italia. It was the spot to be from what I saw. It was whites, blacks and all in between up in that small space watching the fight on the big screen (and some STL videos on a smaller plasma, I think) with DJ Cinniman spinning on the 1s and 2s during the first two opening fights. It was cool being in the mix with all the intensity of the fight. (I know some of the female sup in there was only therre to catch a man who seemed to have been FREE TIME member Roy Robinson. Hmmmmm. LOL) But I made my acquaintances with those who I usually see which are: Charles brown (Keep ya head up!), Cornell Boone, Rashad (You were a little hyped at the fight ya think?) and Eddie Holman of SYGU, JW Moore of Yani Co., Stress Free’s Mark Jones, and James Glasco (Long time no see). Afterwards, people were hanging outside talking, passing out fliers and wondering where to go. I knew where I was going—to work to make some dollaz.

THIS WEEK 2008
Whassup with the rumor that the St. Louis Rams organization may get sold? Well for now, the rumor is not true. According to St. Louis Rams new managing owner, Dale "Chip" Rosenbloom, he stressed this Tuesday that he has every intention of keeping the Rams in St. Louis despite a report from Yahoo! Sports that the team is up for sale. Yahoo! reported that Eddie DeBartolo, former owner of the San Francisco 49ers, has had preliminary discussions with an intermediary about buying the Rams. Yahoo! reports that at least two other groups have had talks about purchasing the Rams franchise, according to an NFL owner familiar with the situation. Rosenbloom said the death of his mother, longtime owner Georgia Frontiere, four months ago caused immediate speculation that the team would be sold. Not only was the selling point speculated, but if they were sold, would they stay in St. Louis? According to reports, the St. Louis rams, which is worth more than $900 million, is opted to be in ST. Louis until 2015, 20 years after signing from Los Angeles to St. Louis (1995). The Rams lease agreement with the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) requires the Edward Jones Dome rank among the top eight stadiums in the 32-team NFL on the Dome's 20th birthday in 2015. If first-tier status is not met, the Rams lease would switch to year-to-year terms a decade ahead of schedule and the team would have the option to leave St. Louis.

The next big ENT newz story was the 121st Annual Annie Malone Parade that was held in downtown STL Sunday on Market Street on 20th and 7th streets. Many thousands reportedly came through took part in the most popular African-American community event in St. Louis ). Dignitaries who participated included Mayor Francis Slay, St. Lousi Comptroller Darlene Green and STL Police Chief Daniel Isom to name a few as well as FOX 2 news personalities Bonita Cornute, Sheryl Washington and Elliott Davis. The Grand Marshalls of the Parade were Majic 104.9’s Tony Scott and Tammie Holland. They also had cars from various corvette clubs, marching bands from local schools and floats from various businesses and radio stations. Performers included 2008 McDonald’s R&B /Soul Search Winner Kristin Stimage, Silky Sol and 2009 RFT Lifetime Achievement nominee Kim Massie (SEE OUT 615 FOR PICS)
Unfortunately, the positivity turned negative when according to stltoday,.com, “less than 15 minutes later, as the parade was ending, a fight between two groups almost sparked a stampede.”Police reportedly said a car drove by a crowd of people and fired at least three shots. A teen was shot in the abdomen at 20th and Olive streets near the parade route. The teen was taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment and was last listed in serious but stable condition. Police had to redirect traffic away from Olive Street to secure the scene.
